I am an old analog guy
so not really up to date on what you guys talk about

I now record 24 direct with mackie 32.8 into alesis hd24
from there i mix down to ADAT 8 track and burn c-d's

but its time to get into the real world
I want to mix and edit via computer

I know i need a good controller
and good software
i want all 8 track i/o
with ability to edit and add effects to each and every one
possibly to also take 24 tracks direc t from alesis and
mix down from there?

What would you guys (or girls) buy?
Im not cheap and want very good the first time.

thanks

If I where you I would still record with the HD24 because all you want to do is mix and edit in the computer. So a easy way would be to get http://alesis.com/products/fireport/index.html a fireport so you can import your files from the HD24 quick then look into Cubase SX or Nuendo(if you got the money). Maybe run your external effects before you import to your computer then mix in the computer. Help that gives you some ideas.

If you need some good plug ins that wont run your computer look into some of these..

Also in that theme...

check out the motu 2408 mkIII, which gives you 24 channels of adat, tascam tdif, and 8 analogue i/o at 24.96 ...

then you could just get yourself a decent midi controller like the mackie control and be off...

alternatively, you could get the tascam dm-24 with firewire, which would give you a control surface and an i/o

possibly you could use a network connection to get tracks from the HD24????

definitely a lot of options, but you should pick a solution that doesn't can your working environment as it is... it's always nice to have options.

yes
i plan to still record with the hd-24
i like the fireport idea as it would free up my studio and
i could take the hd-24 hard-drive into the mixing room.

i still want the signal to go to the computer "dry"
and add all the effects during mixdown.

this helps a lot - thanks
any other ideas would be most welcome
