XLIII
Just another one evening slap-together, heard a few of those around here lately, and this is rough as guts, and probably not up to scratch, but i wouldn't mind cleaning it up a bit if that's possible. Don't want to go the full turd polish, it's harsh and angry, i just want it to be bearable for one listen. Just looking for somewhere to start when i come back to this, so tell me what sucks the most. My guesses - drums overpowering/stupid, too much gain/fuzz on guitars, bass muddy, overcompressed unenthusiastic vocal, shit samples, crowded mix..... If there's no hope i can understand that point of view too. I just want to piss a few people off with this, and maybe give a few a laugh. Any feedback valued.

Just a warning there is some coarse language and it's pretty offensive stuff so.....whatever - politics is the perennial fools errand. This was made to offend sensibilities, in the vein of great aussie bands like I Spit on Your Gravy, Mr. Floppy, TISM, The Hard-Ons, Mass Appeal. I sort of referenced the late 80's Waterfront Records sound as far as style goes, which is rough, but i guess that won't mean a lot unless you are a burnt out ozzie punk. By the way his excellency Tony is the Australian Prime Minister, bit of a nobody. At least you might get a laugh out of the yobbo accent :)

What the hell do you mean, "One listen?" This is awesome! I already listened to it three times. And I will listen to it again! :)

How the heck did you come up with this? Are any of those voices yours, or did you just piece clips together from movies, etc?

LoL - thanks man - it's me singing and the rest is our prime minister addressing the UN last week, it was a public speech, i just took some of the juicy bits :D

By the way... "I Spit On Your Gravy".

That's just a great name. That's the kind of thing that I wish I had thought of.

I don't know any of the bands you listed, but it does remind me of something Fear would do... every album they had a few songs that just kind of got your head spinning and didn't really go anywhere, but were entertaining. Much like how as a kid I might find myself walking down the hall in school singing "We Destroy the Family" over and over without even realizing I was doing it, I know at some point this weekend it will be "You're a liar".

LoL again, at least my psychological warfare chops seem to be up to scratch. Not many australians would know those bands except TISM (This Is Serious Mum) so no shock there. Pretty funny stuff though. I'll have to look up Fear, don't think i've come across them.
But your feedback has been helpful, outside of compliments, i roughly know what your taste in music is like. I might tweak this a bit, it was funny in the moment but i don't want to wear it thin, and doesn't warrant much work anyway. It was a write/ track/ edit/ mix session so i'll sit down after a couple of days for a fresh listen and some referencing. At least i know i am in the listenable ball park or footy field and nothing stood out as totally shocking to you. :D

The "666" keeps making me laugh. Good stuff.

Like I said, I think the instruments sound fine. Someone might say the guitar is too compressed. That one sounds about as compressed as I tend to have mine, and I have been told mine are too compressed in the past. I've always said that if God didn't want guitars compressed he would have annihilated anyone using compressors, perhaps even the compressors themselves. God has that kind of power, presumably! :)

Yes the guitars are pretty flat, more solid state saturation than any valve(tube) amp subtleties but this is techno-punk not prog rock and roll. I know a lot of people hate the cold harsh solid state sound, but it is aggressive and should sound like a drillbit to the ear canal - horses for courses. No compression on the guitar tracks in the DAW, i just looked, must have been some on the fx on the way in, can't recall the settings i used they are all gone...I wouldn't normally compress distorted guitars anyway, they come pre compressed :) I actually backed off the gain on the guitars compared to what i would normally consider right for this style, but i have accepted what sounds good blasting out of your amp is sometimes too much for recording and just ends up as fizzy mush. I'm probably still close to mush, but If god wants to step in here that's fine, I'm well down the path to damnation by now....

It's either bring the guits up or take the drums down, I think. I'd try reducing the drum level first.

An idea: After the song gets rolling, make the Tony snippets less frequent, more sporadic. The vocal's having to compete with them in a couple of places when they overlap. Stick Tony in the gaps.

Hope you don't get sued, btw. :D

Well, at least Tony's daughter is hot.

I think that the guitar tone is fine for punk. It sounds almost like a rave remix of a punk song!

Sorry about bumping an old thread, just came back back after being cut off from ye olde interwebs for a couple of weeks to acknowledge some comments. Didn't get sued or imprisoned by Tony and his cronies, but i think ASIO is on my tail now.

After a few more listens came to much the same conclusion as dobro - drums too loud, too many tony snippets in the wrong places, but it was hard to resist going overboard on that. Going to do a few adjustments now i'm back home.

Schwarzenyaeger - how do you even know about tony's daughter? Wouldn't know her if i fell over her in the street, but I'll google some images now... Funny what you said about sounding like a remix of a punk song - i feel like i'm remixing something recorded by someone else pretty much 99% of the time i ever work on my own stuff.

Thanks for the comments.

She become popular on the internet when she started posting a lot of bikini shots on social media platforms. :drunk:
