What's a good mic for the toms?

Right now we're using 58's and for some reason I can't help
but think that all though they work there is a more suitable
mic out there.

how much do ya got? generally the seinheiser md 421 is known to frequent toms. Also great for horns and a million other things.

SM-57's are a standard as are the Seinheiser's for sure. However, I've come to love condenser mics on toms. In particular, AKG C-1000's on rack toms and a C-3000 on floor tom. I use these not because there the best (by any stretch of the imagination) but because that's the best use I've gotten out of these particular mics.
