I was going to get the AKG C418PP but I heard that it is ok but is not really built great for a Tom Mic due to the small design.

the SE Electronics SE1a looks like it would do a good job and SE seem to have a very good name. Also from what I have heard people chatting about Sennheiser also sounds good and the E604 looks like it would totally do the trick for a nice thumpy Tom Sound.

am I on the right track....I should say I will need 2 Tom mics don't really want to spend much over £200 ...preferably under.

any help would be cool cheers! :D

I have used the 604's and the 504's for years. They are brilliant! Almost sound like a 421. If you hit them they won't break. (go ahead, hit the AKG) I've had the AKGs, thay sound good but the little wire just breaks all the time, and like I said, don't hit it.

Try the E/V ND468. This mic is quite "sharp" sounding, especially for a dynamic, has a need for proximity effect (good for close mic'ing toms) and handles SPL's like a mutha. Oh, and it's a low profile design.

Also decent on kick and cabs, but I mostly use them on toms.

id choose the sennheisers, ive got a set of 3 i got from a veteran studio friend of mine. 3 for 200.00. they sound great. they also sound pretty good on a snare too.

Ok, thanks guys

I think you have helped me out....i was hoping you would say the Sennheiser as its cool to just clip them on ...and they do look a little more steady compared to the AKGs...

I guess maybe the SE1a for under the snare ? ..

cheers

BTW that cool clip wont work on drums with Rims mount hardware.
I have had mine in the studio for almost 10 years. They get hit all the time and I have never had a failure.
