well i just got a nice recording system finally!!(well good enough for my homestudio) ....and i was having mega problems with one drum tracking session i did... It was all about the toms. The toms this guy had just sucked. And he wouldn't let me replace the sounds, he claims i just need to eq them right. And i was like ok.. But anyway this is what they sound like, very roomy and flat. They needed to heads. And i was wondering if anybody has any idea as to how i can make this sound better in the mix?? Like any special process? I am just puzzled. This is the first time i have had any problems with toms so i dont know what is going on... Also so u know more about what i did, i recorded it with a sm57(i can't afford a the sennheiser model i want...) about 2.5 inch away from tom aimed almost at the rim on the top of the drum. So if anyone can give me a mixing tip it would be much appreciated!!

You can try eqing it. To add depth- boost 200 to 250Hz. To add presence- boost 5 to 8kHz. If they sound boxy- cut 600 Hz to 1kHz. Maybe that will help. The toms seem to be everyones stumbling block.

thanks

thank u for the help, they actually do sound a bit better, i tried eqing them before, but i just wastn' getting what i wanted, and that helped alot!! Thanks
