I've got the Toft, and while I've not used that particular Meek, I am familiar with other Meek strips. The Toft, to me, is clearly the better choice, unless you love the Meek color and want to commit to that. Fletcher and others have said that the Toft pre isn't too hot - and it (and a lot of other stuff) won't be when you put it up against something way more expensive - but I think it does the trick fine. Kind of reminds me of the syteks I've heard. I've not noticed any noise with the compressor, unless I'm abusing something and raising the overall noise of the track. The eq is an absolute lifesaver.

Well, I still think the reason you get the Toft is the compressor and EQ. That is what Trident was all about. As for Fletchers comment, his Drawmer Mercenary Edition has the same Burr Brown mic amp circuit in it, and he says that is great...So why is the Mercenary Edition Burr Brown good, and the Toft not good according to Fletcher.

I think Fletcher did not mean what he said, and what he said was taken out of context...IMHO...

In either case, the mic amps are there, they are good, and the majority of ATC-2 owners love them. The new FET mod for the compressor is 10dB quieter and the compressor does sound better...Again, IMHO... So, I appreciate your kind words on the ATC-2. It is starting to sell a lot more, and the new EC1 is also doing very well.

Meek is just a diffent animal. Colored EQ and thick colored compressor. Again, a lot of people like that. Meek is also doing well... They actually compliment each other and still both are only $1700.00 for 4 channels. Not bad IMHO.... :)

I agree - Fletcher's statements have been taken out of context. Like I say, the Toft pre's sound a lot like the syteks I've heard - and that is a good thing! They are clean, somewhat up front, and never too exaggerated.

What was taken out of context? He said the mic pre's suck. I've never heard anyone else say that but his opinion is his opinion.

That would be like someone saying that a Lexus sucks next to their Lamborghini.
Fletcher did backpedal on that ATC-2 statement and said that they sucked when compared to his Manley (and a few other pres that he was using at the time).
He did email me and praised the ATC-2 in the context of a serious home studio. I bought it for use as a clean pre - sold my - DMP3 and haven't regretted it.

Thanks for the info. I've got the ATC-2 on my short list. Good to hear you like it.
