I've been on the hunt to improve my pres, but am finding that it may be awhile before I can purchase a Great River, Avalon, Pendulum, or something in that league. With this in mind, the Toft ATC-2 looks interesting...dual channel (for stereo micing), excellent eq and nice compressor.
My wife and I record acoustic guitar and vocals. We are currently using a pair of MAudio Tampa's and a DMP3 for pres. Before dropping the dollars, I'm wondering if the Toft pres are better than what we are already using? Or, is my existing gear good enough to just wait until we can justify spending on higher end gear?

Thanks for any opinions on this.

OK... if you went to that link... lemme clarify the "mic pre's suck" statement...

I should never have said that... I should have said that in comparison to the pre's in a "Tampa" they shit ice cream, but I used $2,000/channel pre's as a high water mark instead of $20/channel pre's. My bad.

If you get a chance to listen to the Toft's pre's next to a Martech MSS-10, the Martech will eat it for breakfast and shit it out before lunch... if you listen to the pre's next to the pre's in the "Tampa" they Toft pre's will be the easy winner of that head to head competition without a struggle.

I still stand next to the statement that the equalizers alone are well worth more than the price of admission and that on certain sounds, the compressors are really cool.

The ATC-2, IMNTLBFHO, is without a doubt one of the absolute best "bang for the buck" units around.

I have it, I love it! I have a safe sound P1, I love it! I have a Focusrite VMP, I used to love it, now it sits there and looks at me funny (I still use it for some vocals but with the toft and safe sound around, it don't get out much)
I echo what Fletch said (like I would argue with him) THe eq is really nice, the comp is good and the pres are good 4 me. Service from PMI rox too!
 
An ATC-2 is on it's way from Mercenary at this very moment. Thanks for the advice.
