I'll be getting a used RNC from this guy... would like to know what to expect for the whole package.

I know it comes with a power supply and manual, what else?

BTW, does the power supply has a logo or company name on them? (I'll be expecting the 220v european power supply)

is the manual useful? as the owner mentioned he might have lost it. can I get a soft copy somewhere?

any tips to test the RNC still in good condition?

can't wait to get it!! :D

Thanks!

Hi....

Power supply and manual....yep....that's it!

My power supply says CUI stack/class 2 transformer....mine's the 120v though.

The manual is somewhat helpful for getting started but beyond a couple of sample starting points it doesn't have much to offer. The info on the site is probably more helpful.....www.fmraudio.com.......make sure to read it all including the FAQ as it is all good info.

I would say the toughest thing about this comp to get to know and understand is that it is different than most lower end stuff...meaning better. In other words, you don't have to use it as aggressively to get results and sometimes, by the time you really HEAR the compressor working, you've applied too much because it's so clean you almost don't notice it until it's yoo late. Do you know what I mean?

The other thing is Super Nice Mode rules on many applications but takes a while to get the hang of.....it might even piss you off at first till you get it;)

If you really need a manual you should just email them. I'm sure they'd get one to you as it's just a few sheets of copied and stapled paper.

At any rate, congrats on the purchase....I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I don't see how anyone could be!

Yeah, Super Nice mode is indeed awesome, but the knobs don't work the same way your used to. It takes a while to get used to and you just have to use your ears.

And I second the bit about having applied to much compression if you can hear it. This thing is nice.

Enjoy the new toy! Its a classy one.

leeking you have so many connections! you getting thi sin malaysia? good price?

I learned the hard way that great as the RNC is, it's not the best choice for bass guitar. For whatever reason, it may not be the comp to use on lower freq stuff like kick as well. So I just picked up an Ashly for bass, and use the RNC for everything else.

OH!

And for the record I agree with Knownothing! The only thing I haven't liked it on is bass. I haven't tried it on kick drum because I assume it's the same. I'm not saying it can't be used for bass....it's just not "choice."

For Bass I use a DBX 163x. They go for like 50 bucks on ebay and rule for the dough....very simple to use.

Befor I say 'phooy' :) what does the Ashly do that's better for bass? You're not refering to that too-fast-release thing are you?
Cheers

Ive been very happy with the RNC on bass. I think the trick is the setting. I got some nice round results with a 4:1 ratio, 20-30 ms attack, 0.5 sec release.

To clarify MY position,

It works fine on bass but it's not my first choice. I guess if anything, I find the RNC to be too clean on bass. I guess I like it more colored. Of course on everything else.....vocals, etc, I like clean comp so the RNC is "choice."

Yeah, same here. It's just that, since the RNC has proven to be pretty much the tits for everything else, I was disappointed to find it less than stellar on bass. Not bad, mind you.

Dunno why the Ashly does better on that app. Maybe it is the release time.

finally got it!

Hi guys,

Finally got my RNC.... :)

did some rough testing on it yesterday and happy with what I got.

only thing is , my RNC's bypass switch acts kinda weird, I can just turn on the switch by just touching it, instead of pressing.... is this normal? The supernice switch acts "normally" though....

BTW, anyone has the manual in softcopy? can you send it to me? :)

Thanks!

as I mentioned in my first post, I got it used from a guy who bought it from US.

I think you can buy online from web from places like mercenary.com, it's a bad idea to do that in M'sia cos the import tax is so damn high. :(

got it!

Hey,

I just got a copy of the manual from Mark himself.... great support!

sibleypeck, RNC is recognised as THE best compressor under 1 grand, check em out, www.fmraudio.com

Hey Leeking, how are you routing it, and what are you using if for? I just got mine new the other day and I'm figuring out the best routing for my recording of my guitar rig: Is this a good rout: Marshall Plexi/Fender Deluxe Reverb> SM57>DMP3 Mic Pre>RNC> input of VS890. Don't know if this is the best way, any suggestion would be appreciated!
Also my rout for my DR770 DMachine: >DMP3 Mic Pre>RNC>Stereo L/R Inputs of VS890. Thanks!

hi skycries57,

being a new user myself, I don't think I'm the best person to answer your question, but your signal chain looks right to me, when tracking I'd put the compressor after the mic pre.... :) for mixdown, I'd use the AUX send of my mixer....

my 2 cents.... :)

They say on their web site that it's not the best on bass. They had to make some compromises and the bass players lost.
