Reel deep thoughts...
I'm American. Don't mean to exclude veterans and service men and women around the world on this forum, but today is Veteran's Day in the USA...Just didn't want to let the day slip by without saying thanks to any American service men and women that might read this.

Most of us have no idea how much we've benefitted from your service and sacrifice, myself included.

Most of us have no idea the degree of sacrifice and service many of you have endured, myself included.

Most of us take you, your service, and the sacrifices of you and your loved ones for granted. Today I remember this and say thank you, and I'm sorry at the same time.

There are widely varying opinions and attitudes on the value of your service and sacrifice, and the purposes through the decades of said service and sacrifice. I prefer to simply maintain you each have served, and sacrificed, and therefore I think for your sake, out of respect, your fellow Americans should keep separate our opinions of the whys of what you have done from the gratitude we should have. I appreciate I can freely have my opinions. And I choose to freely express and encourage gratitude.

Analog content: proud to have at least a few items of excellent American spirit and innovation and manufacture in my stable of audio equipment! :D

Thanks man. I served in the US Submarine Force. 84 - 90. I don't even say US Navy anymore. lol

I also have a thread going in Prime Time. I should move this over there as well, but the analog forum is kinda its own little cosmo on the internet.

We have remembrance Day here in Canada on this same day and I'd assume England and much of Europe also marks this day. Here, it was originally enacted to remember the fallen soldiers of WWI but because all of the survivors of that one are now gone, we have expanded the ceremonies to also pay homage to our remaining WWII vets, which are also soon to be no longer with us. My dad and my uncles all served in WWII and all managed to survive the war but are also now part of the departed and I do say thanks to them especially, otherwise I wouldn't be here at all!

Analog tie-in: I too have an admittedly smaller collection of analog gear that was made by the Allies! :D

Cheers! :)

I think its a scary reality we are truly losing those that served in WWI and now WWII. There is an irreplaceable wisdom that is disappearing.

I meant to mention awhile ago, but forgot...this day reminds me. Forum Member pianodano, Danny Skittlethorp, passed away earlier this year secondary to a battle with cancer. IIRC Danny served in Viet Nam. I've become acquainted with a lot of really remarkable folks through my interest in analog recording equipment. Danny is certainly among the cream of the crop. Anyway, seems as appropriate a time as any to mention it here and I apologize for not doing so sooner.

Props, sir. And thank you.

We kinda are our own little cosmo, LOL!

I'm thinking serving on a submarine would be a its own little cosmo, period.

Here, here. I second Cory's motion (although I know I'm a bit late to the party). And here's hoping that this country can get its shit together with regards to the way veterans are treated. It's sad they have to fight through miles of red tape to receive the measly benefits promised to them.

I hear that. I work for a government agency. I know first-hand the reasons for the frustrating red tape at times. Its tough to balance. The public wants and deserves transparency and accountability in the work we do, which creates extra work. We are often in a ketch 22 with limited resources, demands to justify our work while needing to do our work. BUT...I also know stuff can get sucked into an illogical black hole. My stepdad has struggles to be deemed as disabled service related. He has a MULTITUDE of severe health complications stemming from having is intestines literally ripped up by flak from a blast in Viet Nam.

Analog content: I think he was in field service the year my MM-1000 was built.

Thanks for the personal perspective. I definitely don't fault any of the workers like you in the departments that have their nose to the ground doing the work. In my opinion, the issue lies with the corrupt government in general and its misplaced priorities. Y'all should be equipped with plenty of resources to do what needs to be done in order to ensure those vets are taken care of. Instead, bailouts and tax credits are given to corporations, of which hundreds of thousands are spent on vacations --- oh, excuse me, "team building exercises" --- for millionaire/billionaire CEOs. It's disgusting.

I forgot the analog content last time. My Sony TC-530 smells the way I imagine the 60s smelled, and it was around during the Vietnam war.

Thanks for your thanks.

I will stay away from discussion of what's wrong and right about vet treatment.

For me, I willingly enlisted, did my time and got out. I was lucky and never went to strange, exotic, far away lands.

I did my duty and left unscathed.

Oh, and with room and board that I didnt have to pay for, I got some gear. :D

Thanks Man. One is definitely disconnected from the world when serving on subs. The 80's was a big black hole for me, musically. For that I am grateful, I missed most of the noxious hair band garbage. I came back to civilization right when the grunge stuff was catching on. And moved to Austin shortly after that with its own brand of music.

Analog content: I used to have one of those Tascam Portastudio 4-track cassette thingys. It is DEFINITELY the reason I went digital. But then I bought a roland VS-Something and it is DEFINITELY the reason I went computer based.

Didn't realize you were in A-Town, Chili (or maybe I knew at one point and forgot). We were down there just this past weekend for the Celtic festival. My wife's band (she sings in a Celtic acoustic band) played two shows there. Always nice :) to see one of the more picturesque areas of TX. :)

Didn't know we had a Celtic fest or I probably would have gone. I remember your wife's video from a few months ago and thought it was great. Being of Irish descent, I would have been keen on going to see her band. Let me know next time and we'll meet up.

Oh that's too bad. Yeah this was their third year playing the show. It's always held in the same place --- around the intersection of Chicon and Jesse Segovia. You take exit 333 of I-35, and it's just a mile or two east. However, I don't think we'll be back, as we're looking to possibly move out to Ashville, NC next summer. If I do happen to make it back down there before we shove off, though, I'll let you know.

Did somebody mention red tape?

Analog content!!! :D
