Ok, I'm slightly heated... Here's why.

I'm working on a new project, it's called "Penny for your Thoughts" and it's an EP. I'm getting tracks from producers and what not, but some of these dudes is so unprofessional. Like, they wanna send me an MP3 to record over... When I'm expecting to receive a zip file with each sound tracked out in wav format so it can be professionally mixed with the vocals to achieve the best sound possible...

Bknot1 just sent me two tracks, and he has his game tight. Everything tracked out perfectly, and as expected to be from a producer of his caliber. I'm assuming most of you on this site do the same...

But this is a warning shot to those of you who don't... If you expect to be perceived as a professional in this game, underground or not, be prepared to act as a professional. No excuses... None of this BS like "I didn't save the files from that session, I only have an MP3"

Well, you only have an MP3 that will never see an album or radio play, trust me.... STEP YOUR GAME UP.

I hate internet producers. The only true producers selling beats online, are the same people who've been doing it offline, or could do it offline without a hitch in their game...

You know what it is though, it's mainly the young people in the game. Dudes who are still in they teens who have talent, but don't have their business down.... I hate that ish.

Sorry, I just needed to vent.

I hear ya Change. This is why I give folks the option of having it tracked out or having it in wav or mp3. Kind of tells me where the artist or company's head is at. If they know what they're doing, they want it all. If they don't, they'll go with the mp3 or the wav only.

Thank God for Reason...as long as I have the reason file and the refills I used, I can always go back and do it in tracks in a matter of minutes.

I try not to send out mp3 dut to all the damn compression of the file..but I will if they want it..track out takes time but makin and hott track and hearing a MC rip it...priceless

That is crazy.. You must send individual tracks guys.. How do you expect the artist to get a good mix ? Not off that mix you did in your house.. Come guys step it up!!!

hahahaha

im with you but i was gonna get on producers, dont say you gonna submit a track to me then send me some wack ass fruity preset beat. God yall be killins me with that shit, please dont even lemme start. Aye yo word to life son, if you gonna gimme sumthn do it right.

You meant to tell me that artist are paying for beats and then recieving MP3 files? That's getting ripped off. That's beef.

The only time I will send ONLY a MP3 is if the artist wants to track for a project due, but did not pay in full. Otherwise, yes you need to send everthing tracked out. From my site I had to figure out how to do that. Let's say an artist purchases a beat, they can instanty download an MP3 version and start making lyrics to it. I then send them a Zip file with all the tracks. I don't put the ZIP file for instant download cause first of all my sever would be loaded and maxed out. But, at least give an Mp3 referance to go by and then send the ZIP. And along with the ZIP, I send a hard copy CD for backup. That's the way you do it... Like a lot of these internet sites, I noticed that they only give you an MP3! BOOOOOO!

Call me a newbie, and everything else you want. Please answer me this, i want to know more about this. Not the tracking part, but the vox tracks.

If i'm dealing with a producer. He sends me an MP3, right, it's all fine and dandy cuz im not mixing it, I would send him back my accapellas only and he will mix it in whatever he created the Instrumentals on.

Now, you say MP3's, no matter how high quality the settings are, will not compare to a wave file? OK then i'm making a big mistake by sending him the accapellas in MP3 then, right? He told me to send them to him in wav format, but he only has dial-up and shit, so i thought it would be more convinient to send them in a high quality MP3 format...

I guess he will have to be there hours and hours trying to d/l the 60+ meg vox track!

To be honest it depends on the quality of your MP3 vocals, if you mix them well then that will suffice. Plus you have more control over how you want your vocals to sound. There not too much of a problem with well mixed accapella, people often do remixes with those. The problem comes when the artist only has a mp3 of the music. He then has no control over different tracks dropping in and out to fit his vocals, and emphasize certain parts in his song.

Well, for vocals, if you save it has a high quality Mp3, your vocals should be fine. It's music that you notice the quality down-grade. Because in music you have all these different frequencies going on that an MP3 won't capture. Vocals are more forgiving. But, by all means, use WAV as much as you can. Use Mp3 when you need fast download and to send back and forth...

In my opinion for project work I wouldnt use MP3 files for anything but maybe the final mix and you want to post it on the internet....

they are compressed versions of wavs which means that parts of the original wav file has been removed to make a more compact sized file (mp3)....

So the positives with the MP3 format is is that they take much less stprage space than wavs but at the cost of quality... You dont want to sacrifice qualtily on your project or should I say I don't...

MP3s are good in cases where there a lack of storage space or bandwidth (d/l) IE internet usage...

You should mail the vocals to the producer if you want the best possible mix....

Thanks people...good advices all the way....i think i gonna keep doing the high quality mp3 thing to give to him back and fort... but also send him the wavs/// with the mp3 i have him working right away you know!!!! lol

this has actually turned into a pretty nice topic...
:D

Since we are still discusing the out of topic things! At what settings do you guys ussually record, mix and master (or send to master) at? my rig can do 24/96 at the high end...should i be recording everything in that settings...is it a difference maker?

Would i enjoy the quality benefits from it when recording vox? BTW the AI is an Firewire Solo...i don't care what M-Audio bashers say...i think that for what i paid, i got a lot!

Back to my topic. Thanks for all the answers!!!

I would worry about recording 24/96 unless you go to DVD. 24/44.1 is just perfect. Plus you will need more CPU power at 24/96. My G5 can't even handle 24/96 with all the plugs I use. But you can also go 48K to bring it up a little. But, if your going to CD, just stay at 44.1k.

I like to record in 24/44.1. I got some behringer truths on the way so i can start mixing and i was wondering what software you would suggest to mix on? I use Acid Pro 4.0 right now but it moves really slow when i have all the instruments and vocals together. I got adobe audition but i'm still a newbie at that.

Acid Pro is OK. If it moves slow, it may be the cpu processor. If you are doing vocals and midi processing with plugs, you need some high cpu processing... How many MHz do you have? I suggest a dual 2GHz...

What other software do you suggest beatsbuy? I'm already making a list for future purchases!!
