What i meant was: a mixer gives you more tracks to record on right? well....how do i get the two to work together? Basically....how do i get 16 tracks from the TMD onto the tape of the 414? Do i NEED a da-38 to even use the TMD's tracks or can i use the Portastudio? If so can someone please tell me how to connect the two. what wires to use, where they connect to each of them,do i need additions outside of what i have to MAKE them compatible? Remember that im still a beginner and i dont know all the terms to get what im trying to say across to all the professionals that are laughing at me right now, but if someone can help steer me the right way, PLEASE HELP.

Hello,
What is this TMD 1000 you speak of? If it is a 16 channel mixer,
then let me know, if so, I would take the master out into 2 tracks of the recorder ( if you are satisfied with the mix ) and record it onto 2 tracks of tape. then you have 2 more tracks for vacols or whatever, What I do is take the 2 tracks = keys or lead , ect and record as a wave in my puter and rerecord as 2 tracks on tape and then add vocals and harmony.
Make sense ? My method may be full of crap, or not apply to your situation, but I'm just tryin to help.

The TMD100 is a Mixer.
It does not record. There are not "tracks" involved.
It's a 16 Cnahhel mixer. YOu could plug it into your Portrastudio, but unless you plan on running alot of "Line" sourcers, it won't do you alot of good.

Where the TMD1000 shines, is connecting a pair of Tascam DA38/88/98's etc to it so that you can Mix to stereo and remain in the digital realm all thr way through to the 2 track output.

You could also get a Tascam card for your PC, and connect the TMD1000 to your PC, and be able to record 8 tracks simultaneously.
