I've been told this is being discontinued by Tasccam due to problems with the effects. Is this true? Is the 500 dollar deal on a digital mixer worth the risk?

Thank you!

I was in a store looking at this mixer and there was a guy(customer there who had bought one a week or so before. He told me that the salesman had mentioned that Tascam just decided to blow them out 'cause they weren't selling well at the original price which was a lot higher(don't remember what it was).Personally.I decided to go with the little Roland 'cause the Tascam is kind of bulky for my limited real estate. Please take these comments for what they are, just what someone told me in a store;I have no personal experience with the Tascam board.Cheers!

I have one and i can confirm that FX are crappy. I am however still very satisfied with the purchase. I am using an external Reverb unit and the inbuilt limiters are still usefull for some applications.
You have also 4 Mic-preams (with phantom power) instead of the 2 that the roland offers.
It is said that the Roland VS mixer has better EFX but I did not buy it because it has no dynamic processors at all.
(the Tascam has also more knobs and faders, which is great when You use it to controll a sequencer program)
I wouldn´t say there is any risk. A Midi fader box without any audio processing power
would cost about the same price.

I would like to correct one statement made above:I own a VM3100 Pro and it does indeed have dynamics processors;in fact there are 2 dedicated compressors which can be assigned anywhere, either seperately or as a linked pair, plus there are numerous patches in the FX processors that contain compressors, gates, etc.Cheers!
