I've been told by a salesperson that Tascam is going to discontinue it's TM-D1000 mixer due to problems with the effects. That's why, he says, you can purchase one for 500 dollars.

Is this true? That's a great deal on a digital mixer - is it worth the risk? Anybody have problems with the effects?

Thanx!

Do not buy one! Even for $500. its not worth it. Almost impossible to figure out how it works, buy an analog board if thats all you can afford, you'll enjoy it much more.

oh, gawd.

This is the story...

The tmd 1000 was a decent mixer @ $1000 list, but it wasnt selling verywell... no flying faders, 20-bit converters... so Tascam decided to can it. they dropped the price to $500, and TONS OF PEOPLE started buying them.. cuz its decent @ a grand, but FUCKING KILLER at $500. So they started making more. HOWEVER, when they are out of parts, theyre not going to make anymore, and theyre done doing software development. Though a number of users are pushing for another firmware update.

THIS MIXER RULES in its price range(imo). the effects are based on ZOOM processors... so youve probly heard them before.. theyre ok. The only effects problem is that the display shows compression ratios as 1:2 instead of 2:1. Your salesperson was uninformed. Theyre discontinuing because 20-bit is no-so-sufficient anymore.

Also, they'll still support the mixer. it'll be warantied and all that for as long as any other... theyre just not making anymore, so it's really NOT risky.

Also, its NOT hard to figure out but ITS NOT AN ANALOUGE MIXER. theyre different peices of equipment, and like any gear, you'll need to learn how to use it if you've never used a digital board before.

and as a parting note, this board rocks there's great user support, and it sounds good too.

xoxoxo

The Tascam TM-D1000 specs leave a lot to be desired...signal to noise is not that great at only (80DB), and total harmonic distortion is poor at (.1). These specs wouldn't even stand up to a mid-priced analog mixer...that is why it sells for 500 bucks.
