Hi, maybe this is the wrong place maybe not, so here goes. My son is trying to record his bass guitar playing to his pc using the Bass Podxt usb connection, and the software Audacity. His sound card is the onboard Soundmax card. Although he records ok the playback volume and the volume on the created mp3 is really low.....I would like to sort it out for him but computer audio stuff leaves me cold and I am now at the point of resorting to large hammers and/or chainsaws!!! Can someone please point me in the right direction and help ease my troubled mind...........thx!!

Set up a master fader in audacity put a limiter on it and slam it. That should get it plenty loud for you. But seriously a little more info is needed. How's the signal going into audacity? Is it really hot or barely there, or is it just right. Without someone being there to help we'll need some more info.

still dazed and confused

hi thx 4 quick reply
how's the signal going into audacity? scuse my ignorance but how do i know? like i said total audio noob here sadly needs walking slowly thru this preferably holding hands :-)

he sometimes records and has playback running at the same time. The volume on the pc is turned up max to enable him to hear it so I guess the signal's not going in too good. does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes sense. :D

Sounds to me like you just need to turn up the input level control in Audacity. IIRC, it is a slider right next to a little picture of a microphone. There may also be some way to increase the level with the POD somehow, but I don't have one, so I can't say for sure. Hope that this helps. :)
