Hi,

I want to do this with my Sonar 2.0

I have a big wav file (> 3mins) and I imported it to Audio Track-1. In MIDI-Track-2, I have set the instrument to a Synth Lead.

1) How to just high-light / select only the intro part of the wav file and do the loop so that I can play some synth sound on top of it. I wanted to use snap and use the mouse to high-light/select the intro but no luck..... I want to loop the exact part.

Regards!

1. split the wav track at the endpoint of the desired loop (right click in the wave and hit 'split')
2. select the desired loop content (as it will now be selectable separate from the rest of the wav) and apply groove clip looping if you want to lock it to a bpm.
3. cut and paste the loop as many times as needed in a track and record yourself in the other track.

was that what you were looking for?

Or just select the desired number of bars and loop them by pressing the loop button on the toolbar. If you don't have that toolbar open, rightclick on the toolbar-area and select "Loop".

Can you record another track while you're looping this way? I've always wanted to know how to do that.

For instance, I have an eight bar loop that I want to play along with on another track. I set my loop points and start recording. Once I get to bar nine of my solo I don't want to loose bar one.

erichenryus,

I will check out the split and see if it works or not in my case.

Acutally, I forgot to tell you that I would like to loop the intro and any part of the song (That big wav file) and then play the synth on top of it. As you may know, this case involve real-time recording so I need to loop and loop the intro and make sure my synth part are right on beat.

Last night, I did something like the above with 80% success because I haven't seen your post at that moment....

Regards!

Yes, it works!

Be shure your "Recording"-buttons are shown. Click the Options-button (to the right). There you can select to store takes in one track, or you can have Sonar make a new track for every loop you play.

Just keep splitting and groove clip loop enabling to get the loops that you want. Once they are 'acidized', then they are locked to the bpm of the project and you can quantize your performance to lock it in as well.
