Hello Everyone,

I recently got a job at a small studio nearby and, being completely self-taught, have had to figure out everything myself. I also had to go from Logic Pro 8 on my MacBook, to Sonar 7 on a PC. Our good friends band wanted to record one of their songs, which I offered to do. I did my best, but I still feel kind of lost in the mixing process. I wanted to give any of you the chance to listen to it and tell me where I messed up, or what held me back from making a better recording. Feel free to criticize, tell me I suck, etc.

The song is on http://www.myspace.com/dreamforanightmareband

This is my first ever attempt at recording a full band.

Thanks,
David

hi

i heard your mix, my honest opinion is...

the guitars seem to fit in w the style of music, a bit thin for me, the guitar/bass fail to create that envelope for the vocal to sit in nicely.

the vox seemed way OUT of the mix. :drunk:

the bass seemed a lil too "DI" was it amped? compressed?

the drum tone was prettttty bad i felt, and i LOVE really lo fi, one mic, drum sounds. :/ i know for the style of music you want that attack from the kick but it seemed to have no body. the snare as well lacked that reeeelease.

just my two cents. happy mixing!:D

The bass drum sounds great. Rythmn guitar was thick in the beginning, I liked that. For the song, though, maybe try not micing the guitars so off axis from the speaker. They kinda lacked power. The lo-fi drums didn't seem to fit in the song though, especially during the breakdown. I agree the vocals are too up front. And this has nothing to do with your recording technique but the vocalist's singing was AWFUL, just from a listener's point of view. I mean bad, man. Congrat's on landing the job, though! So you're no longer a home recordist, eh?
