Toki987

Rock Steady
Here`s a tune by chris I added a bassline to. He WOUDNT ANSWER HIS PM'S so i posted it anyways. :)

There`s a timing clam here an there cause I couldnt bring up the kick drum in the mix out of the mp3 much more than was already there or else it`d be muddy. Maybe it`ll suffice.

Time To Leave

UPDATE: I owe chris an apology. My button didnt light up on the pm`s and it didnt show a msg but there was one from him... :)

YESSSSSSS!!!!

Dad, that freakin' works. Man, to hear a bass line that actually follows the kick on one of my tunes is a pretty rare thing...

Tone rules...I want that bass track, now...

NOW...lol. Toki987: if you have time to upload a high bit mp3 of that bass, (mono or stereo, you pick)...I'll grab it and mix it with the "fuller kick" version that I've got in the mixer now.

THE TONE...THE TONE...

Seriously, what you did on this is PERFECT for the song. You rule.

Thanks a ton,
Chris

That's a really cool bass line man....

just the kick for this tunage....

Rock and roll...yup ;)
Joe

Chris, the bass line is up on the site in mono.
Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. I just snuck this in during a time-out on my honey-do list.
Joro yours is on my mind and list, its coming.

Toki - DUUUUUUUDE...lol. Man, that was easy. I stuck it in the multitrack, hit the "mute" button on my bass track, turned your bass up to +6db so it leveled out right at 0db in the session...and I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE OF MY SONGS SOUND THIS HUGE!!!

lol...

I'd appreciate it if you could check it out, Ken. I think all I did was turn it up, lol. But there's a whole additional kick drum track that adds some "click" to the mix...I think it's sitting okay with the bass, but lemme' know. www.nowhereradio.com/honestmango/singles
"Time To Leave (Toki Version)"

BTW - I didn't hear (or see) all that subsonic crap that's in all of my electric bass tracks...did you EQ it at all? It just sounds right to me.

Man, you HAVE to hit the "rock" or "loudness" or whatever preset you have on your player to pump the lows and highs...It's probably a bit out of control on the low end, but it sounds so good on the monitors, I just left it. No post mixdown ANYTHING...It seems, all I do is make decent recordings less decent when I "master."

Again, thanks Toki

man... put your version up here for the folks. My post was just cause I thought you didnt get the pm (not being rude although it may have appeared so). The kudos are yours for it being such a cool tune. :)

I tried to emulate the live washburn tone as much as possible, although I took everything down below 80hz so it wouldnt wet the floor too much and get sloppyand took everything down above 500 to stay off the snare and guitars. I carved you out a little notch at 112 for the kick to camp out.

I`ll listen to this tomorrow morning when I get home from work. :)

Okay, this post just went into my "EQ ESSENTIALS" folder, lol...I knew that whatever you did made this BUTTER easy to mix, and I really can't wait for you to hear it with the beefed up kick...

Oh, and if I post another thread in this clinic right now, I'm going to be tarred and feathered, lol. I'm gonna' post this all right...but not here, and not right now...I'll send you all the super secret information via PM :D

Good job guys!

Very tasty lines Toki.:)

And chris, step away from the mastering plugs!:D

Toki. wow! we need to do more of that here. Sounded real nice.

I have been very curious about what others tracks sound like alone and then in the mix. It seems that theres a lot of knowledge that can be gained by hearing what to look for in a track. I think Id learn a lot more by being able to hear a guitar track both in a mix and then by itself.. I hope someone whos got good mixing skills will post that as well.

Im still making mud while everybodys making music :(

Peace
Bill

Chris, Toki, this is great (listened to Chris' 5/24 version, dunno if there's a difference). Toki, great tone, and the playinng: perfect ccombination of pocket and propulsion.

Chris, it cleared up that accent issue for me too, not sure why, but if you remember, I wasn't sure why it WAN'T working either.

I think the vox could be warmed a bit, especially when you're singing in your low range. But I think I speak for Toad the Wet Sprocket fans everywhere when I say "I would buy this".

Great collab, you guys. You're an inspiration to all of us.

Well this one has me confused. Was there a bass line in Chris' original version? What happened to it?

And fyi I listened to the version that's linked at the top of this thread - so whatever version that is, that's the one I'm commenting on.

A big thumbs up Mr. Kenny. That fits this tune like a glove. Great tone and great lines. (And kudos to Mr. Harris for a nice song as well.)

Yeah, I got my dates mixed up. It was mixed AFTER Toki's yesterday (5/25), so it's the one I'm rolling with, lol.

Thanks for listening to this thing a few times...I feel like I owe everybody in the clinic a beer or some yardwork or something, lol.

holy triple post...lol.

Dach - There wasn't a bass line when I originally posted this...I couldn't figure out how to make it fit with all the lows in the guitars...mostly, b/c I'm an amateur and an acoustic freak, lol.

Then I added a crappy one, but let's not talk about that now.

Ped - You're next, man...warm up the 5 string, lol.

Thanks to Jake, the term is now gay bass! LOL
Yeah, but you know Jake... if HE calls it a "gay bass," that's like an endorsement for the heterosexual nature of the instrument.

Jake's dumb, PLUS, he's really nervous about the sexual attraction he feels for you, so don't put too much credence in his comments...Really, he's just hitting on you, but he doesn't know it yet.

Neither did I! :D

I hope my wife doesn't find out...(she always refers to homerecording as 'homorecording' and calls my studio 'a homostudio'....I even changed my Cakewalk HS2002 splash screen for her!)

Guys, I really appreciate the kind words, I feel proud that chris does as well.
I didnt track this as tight as I`d like to have, so there`s a few loose notes here and there and time didnt permit me to do it again. Oh well... :) Anyways it was a pleasure and lot of fun. A big THANKS to chris. I`m glad you folks liked it.
