hey guys,
this is my new thrash metal band, i was hoping you guys could give me some feedback on the recording/song. What can i do better? and how can i make the snare standout more, it sounds kind of distant to me.

song - The Horse Whisperer
band - Friendly Collar Boys

Thanks in advance,
T

Well hell, that was short. Is that the whole song? If so, maybe fill it out some.

Cool ass intro!! Nice stereo spread on the drums but, they seemed to dominate the mix and still lack a crispness. I was in want of more git on all fronts.

I liked the change and overall song.

The spoken vocal sounded like the vocalist jumped out of the mix and cupped his hand over my ear to speak (it was close and loud) and I still couldn't understand the bulk of it. Could just be me though:)

Driving tune,
Nice change but, too short.....

Thanks for the listen

Peace,
Theron.

That was a very cool song.

Sounds incredibly like Black Flag, so that's something I like. Also, the spoken word part was a little loud and out of balance with the rest of the mix, but otherwise an interesting element. It reminded me of the Vincent Price part in the Alice Cooper song "Black Widow".

You need to punch up the presence of the entire band and lead vocal, maybe give it a little low end boost, and back off the spoken part to a mellower tone, more even with the rest of the mix.

That's a fun and interesting song to listen to.

thanks for the replies guys

how do i boost the presence more? my akai seems to lack clarity, or maybe its just something in my chain. and also even when i have the bass at this level, if you put a bass boost on it on a portable cd player the bass clips and sounds funky. doyou guys have this problem? thanks again

Maybe add some midrange boost in the EQ, instead of low end.

I guess it's midrange and low-midrange EQ boost I'm referring to. I think if you just cranked up the band's level and lead vocal a little, and also backed off the spoken part, it would balance out much better. Also, the spoken part is a little muddy, so try to brighten it up with some high EQ boost. That's just my off the cuff opinion. Thx, good luck.
