Anybody want to weigh in on this?

I'm looking for a good second guitar and am zoning in on acoustic 12-strings. I've looked and played all kinds and, if it were to be my only guitar, I'd probably spend a bunch more money and spring for one of the Taylors. (Call me a loyalist). Primary use is going to be at small gigs and studio stuff; so it needs to behave itself in front of a mic or when plugged in direct to the board. I have a peamp with a little EQ, but onboard EQ would be a plus. This is not to be a collectible (I love Collings but this is not the time...) but needs to be a working guitar I can toss in the car with the PA and go with. Thousand bucks is pretty much the budget.

I keep coming back to the Carvin Cobalt 980 12-string, which weighs in at just under a grand with HSC, shipped. Laminated sides and back, decent solid top, very clean build, Grovers and all that.

Who else is looking and can we compare notes?

12 strings don't hold their value all that well and great bargins can be had in the used market.

Hey man if you only have 1000 to spend go buy Taylor 355 12 string (one going for $835 or so on ebay right now). If you have more to spend go for a Taylor W65 Claro Walnut 12string oooohhhhhh so sweet : ) Good Luck. BJ

I had a Takamine 381.... Nice nice nice. Full sound, good electronics. Smooth action, sets up well.

I played a Taylor 355 the other day...they are REAL nice.
