Those fancy flat panel displays from Apple... Cool Shite? or Just Shite?

I have been wondering what to think about those Apple Flat Panel displays for use in recording. I know that they look about as cool as a monitor can look. They give off less radiotion and cause less eye strain than anything on the market (as far as I know... please correct me if I am wrong). And JESUS are they expencive!!! The 17" is $990 and the next biggest size 22" is like $2,400 or something!!!!

I would LOVE to have something on par with these guys at a more realistic price. Are there ANY flat monitors out there that boast spec's in the same ballpark as these Apple displays. But do not cost Apple prices?

In a nut shell... what are my choices for having a dual 17" to 22" (preferably 2x 22" flat screens) for my dual 1.25gHz Mac?

I want as little eye strain as possible because I will be stairing at these things ALL DAY!!!!
 
Monitors are monitors right? Or do you have to use a mac monitor?

I just want to have two flatt 17 to 22 inch flat screen monitors that have the sharpest picture, highest resolution, least amount of eye strain and are NOT made by Apple.
 
Dell has some really nice flat-panels that will work with a Mac if your video card has a VGA port, or you can buy an adapter that will hook 'em up to the Mac. I know there are people running 2 of these off a G4.
 
I am asking a technology question rather than a personal opinion question.

I just wanted to add a little to my original question.

I would like to know if there is a 3rd party solution that has the same kind of technology that the Apple displays have. Or at least similar technology. What are flat screens anyway??? LCD? TFT? I know that CRT means, big fat daddy monitors. What are apple displays? TFT or LCD or something else? If so what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I would like a monitor that looks the same when view from the side as from straight on. My laptop is so annoying because I feel like I have to hold my head just right, and even then I never really feel like I am looking at it STRAIGHT on.
