This was A LOT of fun!

Yeah, I listen to mix 3. I like what you are doing here. Especially with the vocals. Keep working to find a spot for all of them. Play with verb and panning to create a place for them all. They conflict at times. I'm not crazy about the effect on the opening vox. Just a preference. I think the overall blend could use some work too, get the vox to sit in the music a little more.
very nice, especially the vocal where u dig in. Great!

Finally a new mix worth another post.

Here we go!

Has been a while, but I think this mix is much closer to what I want than the last three. Thanks all for the help, it is slowly coming along.

Improvements in this mix:
blending/placing vocals
some eq automation on synth pad
general level tweaking all around

Thanks all...

...and yes, its still a LOT of fun ;)

I could use a little love on this one folks, I think my fourth mix is sufficiently different from the first three for somebody to listen to it. still not quite "there" I think.

I've approached this thread backwards I think ie. listened to mix 4 first and then mix 1 for comparison. Mix 4 is tons better - the sound is much richer, the autotune is far more subtle and the general sound is far less muddy. Doesn't sound soulless at all, I think you've been very responsible with the synths. Certainly doesn't need an acoustic guitar in.

Maybe the panning could be a little less hard on the vocals in a couple of places - a couple of times (hard to say exactly where without a clock on the player) where they'd suit a bit more blending than separation. Excellent job though getting all those layers arranged without sounding cluttered.

I also thought it would sound good towards the end with a new strings-type synth line coming in that echoes the piano riff, building up the pressure as the vocal layers repeat over and over. You've kind of got a line like this right at the end as the rest of the instrumentation fades out. Just a thought.

I'd love to do a tune with vocals arranged as well as this though.

Id definitely agree with the vocal panning...its just too severe when they come in...maybe if you moved it once the next layer of vocals come in? dunno but it does stick out...the rest is sounding great to me...it all works well together as a song..

Interesting... Dude, you've got a great voice. I actually preferred the auto-tuned version, as it matched the "synth"-sound of the rest of the song. I love the synths. Whoever said they're soul-less doesn't know a whit about music. I like those synths a lot. Yeah... I listened to mixes 1 and 4. I liked the overall tone of mix 4 better, but I like the vocal placement of mix 1. I don't like the panned main vocals at all. I think those should be very close, if not right on dead center, the ambient vocals need to be dripping in reverb and auto-tuned to death. Sort of like .... ya can't quite understand what they're saying, but when the main vocals come in, it becomes obvious. This way, they'd have their own space, and wouldn't muddle up the main vocals. ...and dude.. Did I mention that you can sing? Your pitch is off in a few areas, but man - the texture is just awesome. With a few lessons, you could really have something unique there.

Anyway... Great time with this one, man. Good message, too. Keep it up. If you want some alternate drums (I have a few ideas), let me know and I'll see if I can work some in here and there.

Dude! drums are my weakness, if you think that you could add to what is there, go for it! And thank you on the voice, no I dont have perfect pitch :D

vocal panning
you are all too right, the hard pan has got to go!

I actually preferred the auto-tuned version
maybe I could crank it up a notch on the background stuff, good idea!

I'd love to do a tune with vocals arranged as well as this though.
You give me entirely too much credit! much much useful feedback was instrumental (a pun?) in getting this piece together.

I will experiment.

I love the synths. Whoever said they're soul-less doesn't know a whit about music
I am learning this... Thanks kcearl for helping me to move into eq automation!

Many useful shoves in the right direction! Many thanks to all, I dont think it would be ridiculous to see a mix 5 on this one, I am very curious on what Jason has in mind drum wise! (pm me if you need anything or wish to discuss further)
