So I'm mixing my bands new album and this song is giving me a lot of trouble. I cant quite pinpoint with the problem is I think it has something to do with an intermittent distorted guitar. Give it a listen and give me some tips! View attachment The Forest.mp3

The vocals are buried. You might want to carve a little 3k out of some instruments, especially that guitar on the right playing single note lines, but maybe just bringing the vocals up will help.

^^^ what he said ... but besides that its a flippin good job :D

The beat is all over the place at times (especially at the begining) - the band needs to work on syncing up together to smooth it out. That guitar is slightly out of tune. I think you have a great original sound and the writing is good - just smooth it out and it will shine. :D

Hmm these are all good points. I may try recording it again when my band records the second half of our album. Other than that I will try my best to fix up the mix.

Vocals need their own space as noted. Maybe just louder, maybe it's cause they're doubled?

Also the lead guitar on the R is a little too loud or present. Maybe some light verb and bring it down a little.

Bass sounds good, just a little loud.

Drums are crazy and I like that a lot. Keeping the snare very prominent is important for this song I think.

I like the feel of this mix, so I wouldn't want to change too much and lose the feel.

Interesting tune man - I like it - but the guitar is fighting with the vocals and it's winning by a longshot

Really good points from everyone, hopefully this will help me get the mix im going for. The drummer listens to a lot of crazy prog type stuff like Hella and Primus, I like the crazy drumming too :D. Im trying to balance the vocals and the instrumentals nicely, let me know how this mix sounds. View attachment The Forest Mix 2.mp3

Vocals are still buried but approaching the point where it's a matter of taste, except the break with the big guitars stomp all over them. Otherwise, much better.
