gec,

Great tune! Love that old school funk sound. :)

I like the mix, but it could stand to be hotter and a bit wetter.
Hope you don't mind, but took the liberty of posting an example (I'll remove it immediately if you do mind :)). http://www.geocities.com/twbarefoot2000/index.html

I added a touch of reverb to your mix, limited it to -9dB (2 band, 1.5 ms attack below 250Hz, 15 ms above) then brought it all up with auto gain. The sound quality is degraded because the noise floor has been raised and there are artifacts because it's an mp3 of an mp3. Plus I'm at work, so I only have bare bones software on hand. Still, I think it gives an idea of how you might tighten your mix up and give it more impact.

If I were you, I would first work on getting it hotter in the mix by limiting the drum kicks before I did this sort of "mastering" work on the final mixdown. Also I would add a touch more reverb directly to the female vocals. Just my humble, inexperienced opinions. :)

Excellent work gec!

Spin,
I finally put up a web site to post my music on. Some mixes soon to come. :D

pretty coo beat, i like what that dude did to it, really phattened it up, i'm impressed with teh mixing. bassline was hot as fuck.. that was my favorite part, the bassline. that was bangin. i could rap over this for sure. very nice, barefoot perfected it. peace

aight barefoot,

I see what ya mean, just that touch brought it out more. Good job, I got tons of stuff recorded like this. I've been making beats and rappin for a long time but I just started learning the mixing down process. I had the engineer I was working with build me an in home studio, so I could spend more time learning how to mix the stuff down. So I find this site real useful. Thanx for the advice barefoot.

Sol,

Glad you liked it Liked your stuf too (but you know that cuz I gave you some advice on the rapper's choice of lyrics in your other post), but the beat was smooth bro and your #2 on the east coast on mp3.

I use fruityloops for most beats and dm2 for scratching - highly recommend both products for hip hop.

gec,

Which wave editor and/or plugins are you using?

barefoot

gold wave digital editor, btw I went your page but the e-mail address for you listed there didn't work is tw or tv bare foot, I had made some adjustments like you said and wanted you to check it out without starting another thread.

It is really wonderful to see everybody helping each other. ;)

This is what is needed to have a "functional" community. :D

GoldWave, I could have almost guessed. :)

GW has a lot of nice features, but some of the algorithms are not the best. Are you also using it to convert to MP3? I notice that the MP3 engine in GW tends to give more of that slurry sound to vocals than other apps.

I'll give your new mix a listen.

I have been disappointed in the way GW transfers to mp3, you can see it gives it a little distortion, I downloaded music match last night and it converted really good, so I'm gonna go wit that one on the new mix
