This was just a jam I cooked up to test my guitar sound. I could only record each guitar track once because I recorded it on a Tascam 414, 4-track. Tell me what is wrong with the guitars. The lead is done on a boss ME-8 multi-effects pedal, while the rythem is done using the Marshall valvestate's distortion.

Tell me what is wrong with the jam. I know the lead guitar needs to be slightly louder, and there are some pops in the song, also I think the bass guitar could use a freuency cut at, what 250 Hz?

I couldn't get it to download...just kept bringing me to a different page..

Yeah..I'm on a 56k so it cuts out every couple of seconds...not good.

If ya get the DL to work...I'll be happy to listen..

Well, I'll start off postive. Some of your leads are great!. Nice to hear some rock riffs, although artificial harmonics died in the 80's. :) You got some great riffs.

The timing.. is bad. The drums are way out there, the right rhythm guitar track drops beats everywhere. It falls apart so many times, it makes it tough to comment on what could improve the guitars.

But, as for the guitars. I like some of the sounds, they are overbearing though. Drowning out the drums and bass, the bass could be louder.

I'd work on getting the song WAY tighter before worrying about the mix or the sound.

Get the song down better performance wise, and you should find it much easier on the mix side.

Although if your just trying to improve it as is, drop the levels of the guitars and maybe cut a bit of low, 200-400 Hz. I think the main problem is volume balance though. The lead is way loud enough. Get the drums balanced with the bass, then bring your rhythm and lead in.

You are right about the timeing. I used the drum machine without programing it and with out using quantize. If I had a digital recorder it would be so much easier to get the drums down right. I hate programing those things.

Thanks for the comments.
