Cubase will happily support acid loops. I'm not 100% sure how it all works RE: tempo changing, but Acid loops do get a fair mention in the help files.

It may be that Cubase detects its an Acid loop and sees the tempo information in it, and works with it accordingly. Probably something to do with musical mode.

Sorry, my answer is a little vague. :)
