Thinking of Getting Acid - Questions for current users
I've been playing with the demo, and I'm simply moist with anticipation.
I'm going to be dicing up samples to make loops (i.e. pull out a kick from here and a snare from there and rearrange them), but also want to be able to record audio to make into loops, and put non-looped audio over top of the arrangements. I've been playing with various demos, and think this may be the program I'm looking for. It's like Fruity Loops for grown ups: all the fun and efficiency, plus freedom and complexity. But before I drop the green, I was hoping to get some feedback from current users on a few questions.
I was just wondering what any of you guys use to complement this program. For instance, can you use it as a host (for recording audio) or just as a looper and sequencer? If you use a separate host, I'm curious what you use, and how it works with Acid - I've heard the term "rewire" thrown around, but I'm not quite sure about what exactly that does. Simply put, is there a particular host that works well with Acid?
Secondly, is there any capability within acid to "play" samples using a midi input device? I know it supports VST now, so I could use Battery or something similar, but is there a way to trigger samples within the main grid layout, so I can then edit their placement within loops etc? (I'm not sure if this is clear, but ask me if there's something I can clarify).
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a good wav editor that can be used for editing samples? Is there a way to integrate a wav editor into Acid (ie click on a sample in the grid to have the editor come up, as in Cubase)?
Thanks for any feedback you can offer.
