Hi,

Currently I record guitar/vocals through my Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro. I'm looking to sell it, as it's just overkill (as I just need an XLR mic and instrument channel). Any suggestions on what to buy? I'm looking at the M-Audio FireWire Solo right now. How does that compare to the Mackie mixer I currently have in terms of quality of sound?

Thanks

Dope!

Something like this is great. Don't really need the effects though, as I'll be using VST plugins and guitar pedals. Soundwise, how does this compare to the Mackie mixer I have and the M-Audio FireWire solo?

Thanks

Btw, I guess I should have mentioned that price is also an issue. I want to keep things as inexpensive as possible (not cheap, just inexpensive :) )

My setup will consist of *New Hardware*-> M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 -> PC -> Cubase

well actually i don't know how it is as far as sound goes. all the reviews that i've read were very promising, and actually i just ordered one myself that should be arriving in the next couple of days. i'll try to find some reviews so that you can read them.

Haha thanks d(-_-)b Phones, that's perfect.

Also, thanks Call Me Cell , but I'm looking for something below the $300 mark. Right now I'm thinking Audio Buddy. Does anyone know how that compares to my Mackie?

I understand that you may think that your makie is overkill, but 1 thing i can tell you when it comes to learning curbs etc, is never downgrade because you think somthing is too much. I would never tell anyone to down grade, thats like taking your new car in and saying " hey pal here is my 2004 honda civic, i was looking to trade it in for somthing late 80's with over 200k miles on it."

If your short cash i can understand a downgrade to get some funds and to keep on recording, but if that is not the case, i would tell you to stick with your guns.

But thats just my personal opinion, and i dont know the whole story behind your reasons.

I agree phones. It's hard giving up good equipment.

I just did some more research, and a lot of people recommend the M-Audio DMP3 preamp. I think I shall go with that. Some even believe it's an even better preamp than what my Mackie has, so that's a plus at least. All in all, it can let me record guitar and vocals into my Audiophile 2496 and that's all i need.
