well, i've been considering getting a Pod for a while, but then i read about the Line 6 TonePort in Tape Op, and it seems like a pretty interesting device. it seems to have some pretty good features, sort of like combining the Pod and Bass Pod, as well as vocal preamp modeling and effects and stuff. however, i was wondering if it would be possible for me to use it just as an 'effects' box as opposed to it being my actual interface. i'm wondering if there's outputs on the TonePort that i can plug into and record thru my Firepod, so i can still use my Firepod as my main interface. i'm thinking if i try to switch between the TonePort and Firepod as my interfaces, i'm going to have to keep switching my monitors around between the two, and that might become a hassle.

looking at the specs on the TonePort, it looks like it has SPDIF out. what the hell is SPDIF? I also noticed that the firepod has an SPDIF in, so does that mean can connect the TonePort to my Firepod via SPDIF? i don't recall seeing any mention of a line out from the TonePort. also, if i can record the TonePort thru the SPDIF out into my Firepod, would there be any problems as far as taking full advantage of the models that the Toneport has? it looks like the modeling is software controlled, and i'm afraid that it might not want to cooperate with my Firepod if i don't have the TonePort itself setup as my main interface. i'm thinking there might be monitoring problems or something like that. i guess i can just buy one and mess around with it and find out for myself, but i figure i'd look here for some advice first.

oh and the reason i'm even considering it is that the price seems great for a box with a good variety of features. oh crap and another thing i'm wondering, if anyone has any experience with the TonePort, is that is it possible to use the models and effects from the toneport as 'plugins' in another audio program (such as cubase) or is it all done thru recording (destructive edit)?

i guess that's all for now haha, kind of a long post. well if anyone has some advice i'd be happy to hear it. and if anyone can point me toward another box that has guitar/bass amp, preamp, and effects modelling all in one for under $200 that might play nicer with my current interface, please let me know. thanks!
