thinking about buying d1600

would i be able to hook up a mixer to on of the channels on the D1600 and mix the drums through it

so taht the drums only take up one chan on the korg and i still have 7 more inputs to record with??

or would that not work at all?

You can patch in your mixer and not take up any tracks. It's done via a sub in page. It sends the sub signal the the master L/R. The signal can also have effects put on it. Damn good machine.

Wouldn't it be wiser to send the L & R out of your drummixer to 2 tracks of the Korg? I mean, than you will at least have some stereo sounds (overheads for instance)...
But why would you need 7 'empty' inputs? Do you record 3 guitars, a bass, a vocalist and stereo keyboards at the same time?
