hey - i play in an acoustic rock band and we have recently recorded our demo cd and it has been received well by local radio stations and music critics ...We have a dylan / neil youung / oasis sound ....

You can listen to our demo HERE - Captain Kennedy

Tomorrow at band rehearsals i am going to have a stab at recording us with my limited recording equipment

An 8 track Alesis Mixer
3 mics : Shure SM 58, £20 Dynamic Mic and a Sennheiser e845 ($140)
and i am gonna record onto a mini disc as our 4 track cassete recorder is crap

We consist of a rhythn guitarist who plays through an acoustic marshall amp
The Vox and backing Vox are miced through this amp as well
A bassist with a bass amp
Myself with epiphone les paul and a 100 W marshall
And a drummer

We usually recording using the line outs in our amps - but i am looking to mic the amps up properly myself ...
And try to mic the drums to create a live sound ....

Can any one suggest the best possible way to record us using this set up ( mic placement) etc etc would be helpful

I use Cakewalk sonar so if i got the drums recorded the rest of the instruments could be tracked later ....

Thanks in advance

Conrats lurgan liar. I listened to Sweetest Friend on the band's site. Your band's singer sounds just a little like a young Don Henley. Your lead lines sound great in the mix.

Isn't it an odd feeling hearing yourself on the radio? In our culture it's almost like your playing doesn't really exist unless you've been on TV or radio. First time it happened to me I recorded it with the announcer's intro and the stuff that followed so I could PROVE it happened in case that was the last time! I knew when it would be on because a friend called me to say she heard me on the air and I checked the station's online playlist to find out when it'd be on again. Yeah, a very good feeling. :)

So again, congratulations.
