Continuing my bizarre quest to mutilate hits from the '80's, I give you this strange twist on a number written by burt bacharach. It was something of a hit for the band naked eyes in the early '80's. My wife likes their version and asked me to cover it...needless to say, she is not pleased.

The vocals are, as always, an issue and the drums are a bit too busy in spots. There is also a bit more tape hiss than there should be...anything else?

Anyone who has heard my prior efforts will be happy to hear that this one is mercifully brief...just a hair over 3 minutes...

Thanks,

I remember when it ws a hit 1st time around.
I like this - needs a better drum track obviously & the reggae lilt section should've had a diff git tone but I like it!

Thanks for listening guys :). At least it is entertaining in some respects.

I kind of like the drums at the outset and the reggae-ish part (chorus), but not so much on the part in between - "I was born to love you..." etc. On that section, the cymbals stand out far too much and it sounds a bit hyperactive. There are also some misplaced kick drum beats throughout. It is tough to program it while humming along to try to anticipate the changes. There must be a better way.

I don't have too much to work with percussion-wise, but the same drum sound seemed to work on the last song I did, so maybe I messed up programming it...or is the sound of the drums themselves simply unacceptable?

Cool version. The crunchy guitar tone on the verses has sort of an industrial but 80s vibe. I dig the psychedelic tone of the outro solo, cool listen

Thanks SnakeDog.

The verses are the only parts that actually came out the way I intended...the rest kind of followed from that accidentally. Ironically, a friend of my wife just sent an email that read, in part, "I am not so sure about those verses - they are certainly different...Pete needs to go to Alternative 80's night for research :)"

Ah well...I think my utter contempt for the source material may put me at a disadvantage here. The lead guitar is my "jerry garcia playing in a hockey arena circa 1977" sound...
