From what i understand there aren't many Grohl fans here, but still, a fun read:

I like Grohl okay. I don't like TCV. It's pretty interesting how he recorded the drums. I saw that he used 3 overheads and had loudspeakers behind him blasing his drum mix live as he was playing.

IIRC, that's what Tool did while tracking AEnima, as well.
 
I once read somewhere that the drummer from Thrice tracked each part of his kit seperately (kick, snare. etc etc etc) using a lcikc track for some if not all of their album Vheissu.

but a pretty rampant google search turned up nothing i can link to or paste in here.

But i did hear it somewheres. Honest.

In was in the context that he had heard Grohl make a joke about it once in an interview, so he wanted to try it.

No way. I've tried it, and you could do it with heavy duty editing, but it will never sound natural....or good.

What does that do?

TCV is alright, it's not super. All the members have produced way better albums with their respective bands. I think they're basically a bluesier QOTSA. Someone else should have been on vocals.
