world's fastest PERSONAL computer, I believe it.

I'm very glad to hear that apple has teamed up with ibm. I hope the partnership continues to make advances like this one

that makes me feel better about not owning a mac

Macs, performance wise, has always been superior to PC's....but they are overpriced and N-Track is only for PC's:D

This isn't true. Recent tests have shown that AMD beats Mac, especially for audio.

Recent test have proven that you can prove anything with tests

Herwig

Recent studies show that 75% of all studies are wrong (including this one)

Make music!

I sure as hell can't tell if a production used a Mac or PC to create there latest CD.

Gee that latest Radiohead sure has a "Mac" sound to it. Pullleeeze!

They claim it's the world's fastest computer...
Haven't they always claimed that? Every MacWorld and WWDC features Steve with some bakeoff with the latest Power Mac and some PC.

Go check Apple's G5 Quake scores for more amusing "benchmarks."

get over it! i think we're all just jealous becuase we don't own macs. i have a pentium 4 2.26 ghz and it's plenty fast. my friend just bought a new mac (i don't know which one, it looks like the one in the add posted here), but it does seem to be faster than my computer for recording. so MY study shows mac is faster.

LOL...

no really... be serious.

:p

your "study" means nothing... faster how? Did you run any benchmarks? Did you clock any operations and do comparisons?

yeah... I didn't think so.

Actually... you couldn't be more wrong in your assessment of our collective "jealousy". My brother has a dual G4 in his studio, I have an Athlon XP 2800+ in mine (which cost more than his G4, btw, so it's not like cost was an issue), and I like working on mine much better. (of course, he's got better recording gear,.. but that's beside the point. :p)

The only people who run to Macs as if they're the Holy Grail are people who don't know any better. Just like those who run to Dell and Gateway. (which is another reason why I don't put the slightest weight in those benchmarks). Any informed computer user would build his own PC (or have it custom built) using the best components available. Everything from the mobo, to the HDD, to the chipset would be hand picked for it's proven performance/stability. That's how I build my systems, and because I like to know that every component in my system is top-notch, you couldn't give me a Mac or a Dell. (well... you could.. but I'd just turn around and sell it on eBay and use the money to build a real comptuer. :p)

:D

Now... I will admit that AMD is slipping... Dang those Canterwoods look inviting... (not to mention the new 800MHz FSB P4's) :) I may just snag me a P4 3.2GHz w/800Mhz FSB and one of them Canterwood chipsets and turn my back on ol' faithful AMD. :p (of course... I'll still keep em around for when I need to build those fast budget systems for friends. :p)

I like my Mac, but honestly, it's just a little embarrassing that the one and only comparison test they run between the Mac and a PC is ALWAYS Photoshop. Their ads should say "Apple Builds Fastest Personal Digital Photo Lab Ever."

I'd probably be impressed if the line started at $1000 though. That's what a kick-ass "parts" PC goes for. I doubt I will ever pay $2000 for a bottom-of-the-range desktop again.

can't say it any better than this !

thank you for keepin' it real !

the AMD 64 chip will probably solve that..just need an OS that'll support 64 bit wordlength...

I hope so. The P5 will be out soon (relatively) and if AMD doesn't get it's act together, they're gonna be perpetually lagging behind Intel.

You can already get dual and quad Opeteron rigs, and from the SPEC results, they appear to kick plenty of ass.

I believe Red Hat already has a 64-bit version and Microsoft has been sitting on 64-bit builds of XP for a while now.

Yeah... but I'm talking desktop computing.

I know the Hammers will give AMD a boost... but since they took so long to release them (those that they actually have released), now the P5 is waiting in the wings and it may very well swallow up whatever boost the Hammer gives AMD.

I dunno... I'm definitely not dooming AMD. I prefer using their stuff. And I don't really want to switch back to Intel after all these years... but they are just so far behind right now that if I was in the market, I would go Intel.

We'll see... maybe the Holiday season will bring good tiddings for AMD. :p

The world's fastest computer is some supercomputer that runs environmental simulations of the Earth. I think it's in Japan although they might have topped the speed in the U.S. by now.

OK! OK! OK! I know it's not the fastest computer on earth. As many people have pointed out, they claim it's the fastest home computer on earth.
