I would like to upgrade my Korg SP-100.

Looking for an outstanding piano sound plus a few other patches and the usual stuff that comes with an SP, like key shifting, etc.

Suggestions? I'm leaning towards a Yamaha but have not zeroed in on a model yet.

Kawai MP9500. I have the old model, the MP9000, and it rocks. Amazing piano sound, and a few other patches, but all sound good. It has quarter inch outputs as well as XLR. Sound guys love the XLR. The best part about the piano is the action. Actual wooden keys, and the built a grand piano action into. Instead of hitting a sensor at the bottom of the piano, the key pushes down the action, and hits a sensor at the back of the piano. Gives you a more realistic feel. Everyone who has played as marveled at the feel. It actually won digital piano of the year a few years ago.

It is quite pricey, and heavy as hell. About 90 pounds, I carry mine on a cart, also has no speakers.

The smaller Kawai model, the ES1 or ESX (Only difference is the color) is awesome too. It costs next to nothing. Same piano action, but no wooden keys. So its a lot lighter. Has some very small speaker built in. It also won a lot of awards, for best value.

Kawai does make awesome piano products. People just don't know them as well.

Thanks for your valuable opinion regarding the kawai keyboards. I'll check them out.

Don't know if I want to deal with the 90 pound job but I'll still look and evaluate.

Th ES1 is much lighter. I think around 60 pounds, no wooden keys help a lot. It also has a music stand, which the bigger model does not.

These aren' t really synths, or even keyboards. They are pianos, that are meant to be played like a piano. So depending on what your looking to do they might do the job.

If you take a look at either of them, let me know what you think. Or let me know what you buy. Its always go to get other reviews and ideas.
