This is the very last one, we won't be posting any more from this collection.

Thanks everybody, for all the suggestions over the past couple years (!).
Every helpful comment you guys have made is in our mixing notes - thanks again for helping us navigate this process. We started on one end with an MD8 and four SM58s and we wound up here. /appreciative/

This one came together at the very last minute - I realize it's very derivative but I think that it fits with what Steve and I are trying to do. Any suggestions?

Very cool guys...a mixture of many influences here. Just very happy sounding. Man, nice kick sound there. Lot's of meat to it. Vocals are great as usual. Nice bass tone. It really fits this tune well. Guitars have a nice, warm, vintage sound. Everything seems to meld together well, as far as I hear. Lyrics are cool. They seem to tell a story in a dream. Kind of surreal, and a bit convoluted. Not a direct point, but open to interpretation.

Nice job. I hear no problems as far as I am concerned.

Did you guys ever have this up on your site before? It seems so familair.

Incanus and Casey...

It does fit right in with the "Collection".

I like the flavours of Ragtime and Jazz on the piano , you have dusted it with here and there.

This has become one of my favorites. The more I listen the more likely it will be THE favorite.

It sounds perfecto to my ears.

Once again....the magic has spread forth to enchant us...congratulations.

Love True :)

Super & Co., (sorry don't know you by name so can't name you by know),
The sound & narrative of the verse remind me or a) Harry Nilsson's best work & b) The POINT soundtrack.
The chorus is another thing however & does wear a 1000 influences on its sleeve but none dominate - so that means it's a really good synthesis of influences. A really good song without trying to be cool. It just is what it is which is cool.
And so to the mix - well, um, er, sorry - nothing to offer it's right. It's correct, it's mixed properly. It's sounds balanced, layered, clear, soundstage et al. Again it's right.
Congratulations on doing something different & doing it so well.
Sorry, I've babbled too long.
Cheers

Why the hell are you guys so happy? :D

This is very cool, it's infectious.

...a mixture of many influences here.
Everything from Randy Newman to a Broadway show, with Queen Harmonies.

Like the other fellas, nothing to really nit-pick here. Well-mixed, sounds like it should. Excellent stuff, you guys should have one nice lil CD.

this was different sounding.
It shows the big musical spand you have.
sounds very pro and tight.
Nice key work, cool bassing as allways.
Great vox and choirs.

Love the solo piano part really classic.

great work guys.

I hope you make many more. :)

Typing while listening. Overall mix I don't think I can offer anything useful, it sounds great. I really like the piano, and the way the vocal melody goes with it. Chorus and overall background vox are done real nice, they blend real well. I dig the lyrics. Great solo (im a sucker for the piano solo). Really enjoyed it man.

Take care
gary

Your lyrics are always thought provoking. Great song.
Arrangement-wise, the chorus just grabs me every time.

Interesting vocals... the difference in sound between the verses and chorus sounds like a different singer, though Casey I know that you do all the vocals. You've really got two entirely different voices. It adds to the interest of the tune.

The piano playing is excellent for the song... a little more of a percussive tone in the piano might add to the arrangement - just mentioning in case it's compressed during mixdown and you could alter that. A minor thing really. The guitar at 2:00 sounds just a little muted to me, but the playing's just right. My gut reaction is that a natural tone would fit the arrangement better there.

Be nice to hear the bass just a little more.

Great tune.

Tim

Thanks everybody for the listen.

True, Dog - thanks. I'm glad you like the song.

Sonic Rat - we get that sometimes. Is it the sarcasm? :)

RayC - you've got us pegged. Nilsson was a big influence on this song, and we unabashedly went for it. I hope the similarity isn't too striking.

DavidK - Thanks - we're not particularly happy really. Just goofy.

Gbav - Thank you. I suck at ragtime, this was a monster for me.

Naka - Thanks for the encouragement - and I'm personally glad you enjoyed it.

Tim - The chorus is a different animal for me - I'm trying to do the Bowie trick of singing in both falsetto and chest voice in the same phrase. We compressed it aggresively with a LA2A plugin and liked the result.

The guitar solo does sort of limp along dosen't it? I was channeling Jerry Garcia and went with the envelope filter. We will retrack this solo.

We'll also try to open up the drums and piano tracks with a little subtractive eq.... I'll post the results if you are interested.

Thanks again,

-Casey

Nice job on another great tune guys.....Will this be your closing tune on the CD? It has a very upbeat and theatrical feel to it. We don't get enough piano playing like this, it's nice to hear. Some classic songwriting and performance, reminds me a bit of Randy Neumann (sp?) but with a much better voice. Always enjoy your material and this one is another hot one.... :D :D :D

Super,
I'm just stoked to hear "a little touch of..." nilsson. I REALLY love his work (I even have Pandemonium Shadow Show, Ariel Ballet & stuff from his Capitol/pre release days) but can't hope to work within the landscape.
You are working within a genre & showing a little heart on your sleeve THAT'S GREAT.
No suggestion of ripping or leaning being made merely referencing.
Again, Top Shelf Stuff.
Please post and revision/remix.
Cheers

Heh 'Slow to get smart, quick to get old'... nice line.

Reminds me of the advice 'Quick hire that teenager while he still knows everything!'

Cool song man. Reminds me of early Bowie. Nice vocals & instrumentation. Arrangement is well constructed. Enjoyed it

another excellent tune fellas. as usual, i found this late. damn me. great tune. vocals seem to have something very different going on compared to the previous tunes. maybe it's just me. really dig the piano stuff.

i'd like to say that it has been a pleasure hearing all of the tunes that you two have have created and shared with all of us. we are a lucky bbs indeed.

seeing that this is the last tune of the project, what are your plans for the future? world tour? retire to the bahamas and become rock legends to the locals while enjoying a long life of fruity drinks and beautiful women? hmmm? :D

hope you guys stick around so we can continue to enjoy your talent.

Rofl.

I think our plan is to start jamming for a couple months to come up with songs for our next effort. Maybe we'll even clean the studio.

Thanks everyone.

Most definetely some Nilsson influences going on in this one--and the others mentioned here as well. But I think that the vox need to be mixed in a little bit better, in my opinion.

ido--This won't be the closing song on the CD. Right now it looks like 'For a Dying Bird' will get that honor (the song we just posted prior to this one).

TL--I haven't listened to this one in mp3 style yet. I wonder if the process has killed a little of the tones of the instruments--particularly the piano and lead guitar (the only guitar). There's still a little more to do.

TravisinFL--thanks man. I sure wish I could work on music more and not have to clock in 40 hours a week doing. . . well, work. No retiring anytime soon. No bahamas or beautiful women for me. That would require money and/or fame!!!! I don't really want fame, myself, but being able to pay my bills through making music sure would be nice. Well, back to reality now. Like 'creep said, we'll clean the studio up and start on the next batch of tunes.
