The Ultra Curve???? Anyone????

Since these are blowing out at 2bills i figure it might just be a good deal.
It so happens that I could use an analyser at this stage and I guess the EQ would be good also.

But......
Does anyone have any expeience with these???
Is the digital EQ any good?
Is it an effective analyser?


I already have a couple of the ECM8000 mics.

I use a lot of Behringer stuff, mostly older models before they added the PRO suffix. I like my Composers, Ultrafex, Denoiser etc but I would never buy an Ultracurve. Why? Because it's yesterday's cheapo digital design. From what I've heard from people who own Ultracurves, it has a noticable noise floor, it doesn't sound too good, and its measurements aren't precise either.
 
my old partner had the ultracurve. it's kick ass. very good eq and very handy as an analyzer. we used it mostly in live situations, but we also used it to calibrate my studios. those mics actually kick ass on the acoustic guitar, too.
 
I've always been under the impression they we're pretty good, never using one though, I couldn't say. I have thought of getting one before though. But I just rented a scope instead.

i was in your exact position about a week ago. I saw it listed for $200 and have always wanted an analyzer to mess with and see if it might improve my mixing and overal quality of my tracks. I just got it and am very impressed. With regards to noise, i have it in parallel with my monitors so the signal doesn't actually pass through it, but sees the same sound the monitors do. Therefore, i guess noise is of no issue. It does register some frequencies when no tracks are playing, but they seem to be insignificant compared with the volume of a single track. I didn't have much use for the eq so i haven't messed with it, but so far it seems to be a good piece of gear to have around. Aside from that i have notice the spectrum analyzer in wavelab displays very different results, but i think it's more of the fact that the axis are calibrated differently, so things come out more drastic on the wavelab analyzer. I don't think you can go wrong for $200. Has alot of other features that i just didn't want, but came with.

I have an Ultracurve, and it is very useful.
I wouldn't record through it, because there is a slight increase in digital noise floor, but it is valuable as a EQ during playback.
The RTA and Auto-Q features work exactly as advertized.

Note that its A/D converters actually sound quite good, so with the EQ turned off, it can be used as just an A/D converter if you also have the digital output option. The noise floor diminishes when the EQ is not in the circuit.

I am thinking of snagging another one for only $200 !

I kind of already put some dough down on the sucker before I posted.........:) and figured it couldn''t be too bad of a gamble.

Two of the guys at the store where I'm getting it really like theirs a lot....except for the fact that they got it when it first came out and paid way more (even with their discounts) and paid like $65 for the 8000 mic.
When I ordered my pair of 8000's through them (for 34 a pop on the recommendations of many here...thank you) they kept mentioning that they came with built in cables and 1/4" plugs which confused me......they were pissed when mine came in and were straight up "real" mics :) .

I actualy want the ultra curve because I am trying to build a room and really want to tune it, and who knows if I'm ever going to get my damn DAW up and running.

First44....thats a very good idea about going parallel with the signal to the monitors. I will definitely hook it up that way for analysing.

I will, of course have to check out and make use of the EQ though........I love EQ for effect.

....and I know that Berhinger rips off a lot of technology but........

goddammit I'm a po' gear slut and I love it when companies blow out units to make room for the NEW and IMPROVED.

Like the V69/ArtMP/AKG Cans combo blowout deal for $199.


...besides......I was never very much into ethics anyway......its all about the music, man....dig it.

You got a good on the Ultracurve. My buddy paid a boatload for his. It's earned itself off many times over because he does a lot of live sound at different venues.
