If I'm reading those specs right, they aren't any faster than the newest EIDE or SCSI drives.

M-Systems drives have been out for about 2-3 years now.. Just wait till their next product is released.. I can't say too much more than that..

We took a look at them about a year aog for a unique kind of application at work about a year or so ago. I don't rememebr the numbers, but their price got them ruled out of contention immediately.

They may not be any faster than modern IDE and SCSI disks, but they had no moving parts and were failry rugged and shock resistant. That's what made them so attractive for the use we had planned for them.

Dave,
There IDE 3000 comes in at 1/3 the cost of the FFD.. It is one of their newer products.. Not as fast but the cost is there. The FFD's are used in Govenment fighter jets.. You obviously aware of their failure rate..

If what they are calling 'access time' is the same as 'seek time', then on that note, they blow away conventional disc drives. (0.2 ms vs ~8-9ms). This could make a huge difference in real-life performance.
