whooo baby!....I slap at that shit!...right off the table.....
More room reverb please!...else is good to listen to!
Nice vox too....maybe that's what needs the verb?
What are you using to record...software/hardware recorder?...
Well done!

Thanks, this was recorded with outboard pres into a Motu 896 HD modded by Black Lion. We used Sonar to record and Wavelab to master.

We are incorporating as many recommendations as we can - we're in a new room and need some time to get acclimated to it.

So far we are:

Cleaning up the drums and working on the snare and overheads. (done last night)

Adding a little LF energy to the bass guitar, and playing with some reverbs.

Working with the guitars to give them a little more energy.

We'll try to get another mix up this weekend.

Thanks for the listens, everybody. We really do need to hear criticism, especially the bad and the ugly.

Everyone: thanks for taking the time to listen and comment; it's very helpful.

I'd just like to make sure we're all talking about the same song--one person mentioned 'the solo', and there is no solo, guitar or otherwise, in 'The Thief'.

As Casey said, we're tinkering with this a bit more. We'll post an updated version by Sunday night.

Creep...man, I love, love, love this tune. I hear a lot of The Who in this, then some crazy ass Bowie ..... man it's just all over the place and original as all hell.

That snare is really boxy somewhere around 300 hz or so I'd say. It has a real cardboard box quality to it as if the snares were'nt engaged at all. It's an odd snare sound really and needs some crack to it. Especially for this kind of tune. I love the super percussive bass tone...it's got bite and texture and does a nice job of anchoring the piece. If you do decide to beef it up at all, be careful. A little will go a real long ways with an active bass line like that. I'd err on the side of definition where you are right now.

Before you do anything, just add about 2 to 3 db in at 100 hz across the entire mix and see if the whole thing doesn't gel a little better.

That middle section works great, but I'd look to throw some verb at those toms for that section alone. They're exposed there and could use a little to really make em speak.

Love the guits. I wouldn't touch em except to maybe pop them up just a hair. Be interesting to see what the revamped snare does to them. They should survive ok.

I'm on cans at work...very good cans, but cans nonetheless. I'll give this a good listen in the studio tonight.

This is one of the better offereings I've heard here. Nice job.

It's all been said already. It's a great great tune. The vocals are incredible. Sound and performance.

I agree with Madhatter and Teysha about the drums. I like the sound, it's a nice natural drum sound. But I think the snare, and maybe the overheads, can use a little less (somewhere between) 250-400hz. The snare does sound a bit box-y. The playing is tight as a.............something really tight.

Everything else slams.

Sounds fantastic. Not much i can really add to all this. Vocals are seriously impressive. Everything sounds spot on/pro to me. Awesome song man.

Take care

Gary

Great song fellas.

I like the mid section part, I think its done well.

The die off of that first chorus area felt a *little* to fallen off to me

I like the bass tone, but yea I guess it could use a little more balls.

I thought the song over all was very high middy. The vox sounded great, so I'm thinking it was more of how the other instruments are playing together.

and yet again you guys piss me off with your skill levels .. I hope to one day be able to write and perform as well as you.;)

Nice. No nits, just a nice listen. Vocals REALLY sound like a modern version of Styx.

The middle section is good. Maybe change the tone/reverb/eq of the guitar riff as it progresses, but it works fine the way you have it.

Coool cool cool.
One little thing - in the passage starting at 1.37 each time one of the one of the bass or guitar notes is struck (it's the third note in the progression I think) I get a muddied resonance in the cheap AKAI speakers I'm listening on today.
A terrific song - I particularly enjoy the expectation building/defeating middle section.

Sounds good! Vocals are right on with the tone.. i love it. DYNAMICS DYNAMICS DYNAMICS... this song is FULL OF EM! lol It's always good to have GREAT dynamics esp. in a song like this. It seems like that snare could get a lil more snap and crackle in it... you can esp. hear that in those build ups in the middle. I love the kind of "in and out" guitar chords and vocal structure you have during the verse. VERY NICE stuff! Good song too :)
