Is it just me or is the TASCAM forum (on this board) dying ? Did everyone go over to the other place ... tascamforums.com ?

Seems to me a lot of forums on this bbs have died down a lot. IMO, tascamforums.com is a step in the wrong direction if that is indeed a factor.

I'm sure having the brand specific forums blocked until you log in doesn't help. You used to be able to see them without logging in. Of course this cuts down on the anonymous surfing traffic. I normally don’t log in until I want to post, so nothing in those forums will catch my eye.

I think tascamforums.com is a cool place overall, especially the analog section, but it's not really what I'd call home for me. Although the info is nice and people helpful, it just doesn't have the pace and spirit of this board / forum. I personally see no reason to go there when the activity here is so much greater. Why people went there, I have no idea. Aren't we easily accessible on this forum for those who own or are interested in TASCAM analog gear ? Oh well .... :(

It had a good start and in the early Rodney Gene days it had a nice happy feel. when Jeff became moderator of the analog section it looked promising. I think we hoped it would be like the old TASCAM company forums, which it certainly is not. Much of what I see there now is just people repeating what we've already posted here, or a lot of unanswered questions that anyone of us could answer here.

Mostly, the current “management” is very anal (or is Nazi the word I'm looking for?). They don't want to piss any manufacturers off, so you can't speak freely. They want members to just sit with their hands folded like they're in Sunday school or something… all to impress potential sponsors. I don’t think it’s drwho so much as it is the other guy, Telson… but I’m not sure.

It’s a very controlled environment, not really suitable for temperamental artists and musicians. Some might say homerecording.com is not controlled enough, but I kinda like it this way for the most part.

I was one of the original members there… in the first 100, and a donating member, no less. Hell with them… and I mean that with all my heart. :D

It just feels like a gray, winter day there all the time for some reason. I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Anyway, long live homerecording.com! :)

Tim,

My thoughts exactly, as per the above. You nailed it right on the head!

Thanks for replying and sharing your thoughts! ;)

....in fact it's kind of a Zombie convention over there....

Well, since TASCAM has been dead for like 10 years or so, it is no wonder that the forum would go the way of the do-do too.

Long Live Fostex!

And now the secret is out... why some of us had difficulty associating the name Fostex with recording equipment around 1981. ;)

Not nearly as bad as the fate of AYDS candy though in that same year.

tascamforum.com

I'm not sure what's going on there these days as I had to drop my participation level there a number of notches when my father took ill with cancer and passed away in the spring of this year.

On the whole, my experience with that forum was pretty positive but there was a number of issues that forced me to step away from being Analog Moderator over there. None of those issues will be resolved by me airing them here, but I will say that I will miss a number of very good people who hang out majoritively over there.

If I helped out a few people and inspired some others to continue on with their analog recording pursuits, then I guess my job was done as that's the only reason I went there in the first place; to help people, have some fun and make a few friends.

I wish them the best of luck.

Cheers! :)
