The studio projects C1 - where did that come from?

After I bought my NTK about 3 months ago, I quit visiting this thread as much...just felt like I had hit my peak with microphones.

And now I'm hearing about this Studio Projects mic...would you say that two of these would make good room mics? Vocal mics? I've heard that these things are comparable to a Neumann U-87...but they kinda came in from out of the blue on me to become the next big hyped mic. After my experience with the NT2, which I felt was a little too hi-end and brittle for my voice, I was pretty happy with my NTK - but you can never have too many mics...esp. two for drum room or ambience mics.

ruebarb, it's not hype , the C1 sounds great for my vocals.
You may want, however, to get one of the multi-pattern mikes like the
C3 or T3 for more flexibility. The B series is supposed to be out early next
year and there will be a B3 (multi-pattern) coming out.

It's just funny how one day, you've never heard of a mic...and then the next day...BAM!!!!! - Out of nowhere to take the lead as the home recording mic of choice...very strange.

Everyone has one now....very interesting....but I haven't read a lot of complaints...and usually if there's something to complain about, we'll get around to it.

I posted a complaint here a few weeks ago. My cradle fell apart and the mic fell. No damage to the mic but. Within minutes Alan Hyatt replied (the studio projects big boss) and i had a brand new cradle sent to me within a week at no cost to me. (and i live on the other side of the world to him). No questions asked. The mic is f@#king brilliant and the service is even better.
Name one other company who does this. Behringer wont even reply to support emails. If i could sell my behringer i would but no one is stupid enough to buy it. Behringer is the shittest gear on the face of the earth and i will never buy anything from them ever again.
I intend on buy another C1 and one of all the other models and the pre aswell. I also hear a compressor and eq to go with the pre are in the works.
As they say, when you find a good thing stick to it, when you find a better thing switch to it.

I've seen three situations on this forum alone which have shown Allan Hyatt and Studio Projects to have amazing service and support.

  1. The "Mic Cradle"/Shockmount issue, listed above
  2. Allan replaced the innards (free of charge, just shipping) of a C1 that got accidentally damaged in a flood.
  3. A buyer thought he had a 'dud', Allan tested, then replaced the entire works of that mic.
    [/list=1]

That is on this forum alone, who knows what other amazing feats of service and support he's pulled off.

I hope I never need to take advantage of this exemplary level of support and service (for my C1), but it is very comforting to know it exists, and will keep me coming back to Allan's products.

The quality of customer service and support that Allan has extended to people on this board who have publicly complained about the C1 has been exceptional, however I don't think that he is going to be able to offer that kind of personalized attention to each and every person that buys one of his products for an indefinite period. I am not knocking him or his products, just mentioning that these guys got special attention which cannot necessarily be expected by everyone.

i think he does it because he knows that only one in a hundred mics will have a problem and the good publicity will outweigh the additional cost.
my opinion anyway.

For what it's worth, I'm also self-employed-similarly to Alan.
I run my business the same way, because standing behind a product or
service is the right thing to do. The fact it pays dividends is secondary
to its being part of my lifestyle. I'm sure Alan feels the same way about
what he does too.

vox,
I think adeus and chessparov are more likely to be correct than you. Allan said that was basically his way of doing things, and the way he has done things in the past with the Joe Meek line. True, if he starts to sell a bazillion microphones, you might not be in direct contact with him, but I doubt the overall service and support will change in principle...
