Hey, i dont know hardly anything about guitars, but im going to buy one. Im looking for a RnB/Pop/Soul type of sound and all of these brand names i encounter just confuse me. Can anyone recommend a good model that would meet my needs. -T

Sounds like you're a good candidate for a Fender Squier Stratocaster.
They are relatively cheap, made pretty well, and deliver a good sound for the beginner player. They would also fit the type of music you mentioned.
Did you say if you could actually play yet??? If not, then maybe start off with an acoustic. An electric takes a little more finesse to coax well executed notes and chords from than an acoustic.
Good luck either way!!!

Definatly a Strat or ES335 style guitar. Those are very different guitars, but if you look at all the R&B and soul music form the 1970's, you will see more than a fair share of both.

Depends if you're playing lead or rhythm. Strat type for lead, ES335 type for rhythm. Of course these are gross generalizations, so YMMV.

For Soul and R&B I would choose a Telecaster over a Strat every day.

Steve Cropper used a Telecaster on all those early soul hits (such as 'Soul Man').

It's just a great sound for that genre.

check out the ibanez talman series - (gibson ES 335 style mentioned above) ... they have like 6-10 different models at a good price and a very reasonable qual and sound ... those are hollow or semi-hollow and should be around 250-400 bucks

good luck

I really like Jazzmasters for r&b. Hendrix played one with little richard, i believe.

Yamaha Pacifica.....a little more versatile than the Squier Strat because it has a bridge humbucker..........
