Why not just buy new tape, get tape that will work and give support to the last tape company out there?
Screw eBay, support RMG or have no tape!
Brilliant! An abstinence only approach! Why didn’t I think of that?
The purpose of the thread is to help members avoid bad tape by sharing knowledge many would otherwise not have because of factors like when they were born, and/or when they started recording.
I always recommend new and sealed tape. However, new-old-stock tape of many varieties is as new and usable as the day it was made, even ten or twenty years old.
There is no shortage of tape, but many people are buying bad tape and passing over perfectly good tape.
Tape selection is a lost art. Tapes have different characteristics suited for different applications, but people that weren’t there wouldn’t know that.
However at least one member I know that says he was there, but was not will probably claim to have known this all along and claim he told me all about it so I could start the bad tape list, but I don't know what user name he'll be using then.
