the perfect song

There have been many times in my life where I've thought that every great melody or song idea has been used up. But, now that I think about it, I dont think that will ever be the case.

About 5 minutes ago I was watching mtv2 and saw a video for the ColdPlay song 'trouble'. Usually I cant stand Radioheadish soaring vocals and piano/acoustic moody songs, BUT this song was great. Actually its amazing.

It sounds like nothing Ive ever heard before.
Also, the 2 CDs by Orgy(my favorite group) are equally amazing. They have a very unique style and write more hooks than you can imagine.

That kind of got me thinking...All melodies that are possible already exist. We just haven't discovered them all yet. I think the number 1 reason that Im into all this is that I know that there is a perfect absolutely amazing song out there somwhere just waiting to be written. Hopefully I find it first....
 
Musicians are inturpreters, we communicate on the level of sound, while others may communicate with visuals or written ideas.

I don't believe speach is the purest form of communication, perhaps the easiest for specifics, but I believe music and art are our true link to eachother. Music isn't about hooks, or sales, it's about US.

So I suppose in a way all melodies are already out there...and it's up to us to make them come forward in our own way.
 
The perfect song or melody is only manifested in brief moments. Its a particular song that illuminates the soul, to bare the smiles of the past as well as the scars. That looks to the future, both bright and dark. It lifts you to the mountain top while reminding of the comfort of the valley left behind. It brings a tear or yet a smile, and sometimes bringing them both to the same place at the same brief moment in time.

Uhm.....Ah.....I'm back now. Excuse the babble, its been a long day.

-------> That statement is basically true, in a non-specific, open minded way, regarding the endless possibilities of our own individual imaginations.

We all have to discover the songs in our own heads, with regard to our concious songwriting craftsmanship, and the subliminal ideas & subconcious themes that drive our imaginations.

A good original song is like a discovery, of sorts.

What you're saying, is like saying:

"All [discoveries, or things to be discovered] that are possible already exist. We just haven't discovered them all yet".

-----> ...which I would basically agree with.

i just read the book "Stalkting the Wild Pendulum" which gets into quantum mechanics and such, so thats probably where my mindset came from making that comment. :)
good book btw. gets a little too into clayrvoiant phsycic stuff at the end though....
