did you ever watch "the wolfman" when you were young? no, younger than that- i'm not talking about "an american werewolf in london", or paris for that matter.....

i'm talking about the original. and do you remember the old gypsy woman, and how she told poor larry talbot that he might as well kill himself, because the damage was done, couldn't be undone, and she tried to give him a talisman to wear to protect himself, and in the end, it did no good.........?!!

this story is loosely based on that, except these are 2 brothers, and for whatever reason, they meet their doom after a night of hard drinking, as one wanders off into the moor, and gets his head torn clean off. The other brother debates what to do, he's so enraged, and he goes to a witch, to get a spell, and to drink the aconite, and say his peace, then goes out into the dark night to get revenge....

but that's not what he gets.

Melodic sound, not quite what I was expecting from the description... I get Rush vibes from the beginning and a sense of the familiar (in a good way, I think) from the whole thing. (I think I was expecting something more like S8-N's stuff, this is the first song of yours I've heard)

Polished production, in my opinion - very well done.

HEY, THANKS FOR LISTENING!

old grover, i like s8-n's stuff......... yea, we're different........
yeah, as polised as you think it sound, i really botched the mix.......i've re-mixed it, sounds better now than that mix, which was for a cd compilation.........
but that was my 5th version of that tune, it was quite fun to record.......

thanks for checking it out......

Would like to listen to this on a good system. Liked all the doubling effects on guitars and vox, I'm sure it sounds "great" but the production was out of this world I thought. Whew, great stuff GONZO...David

Wow!This sounds very pro to me.Great job. It's got kind of a Fates Warning sound
to me.I'm gonna listen to the rest of the tracks when I get a chance.

WOW, thanks again for listening......

it is so cool to get any feedback at all........

hey dave, on the recording notes, the rhythm guitars were played 2 tracks, hard left and right..... the center section, with all the feedback guitars, were 6 different parts, all feeding back their own little tone, and then all blended together for the one effect.....

the vox was a single channel, with 3 part harmony in spots here and there....... no actual doubling of any parts......

beezelbubba-
i've never really listened to fates warning, but something tells me maybe i should..... i do like dream theatre, and have been told they're somewhat similar..........

this is a winner.

now tell us your setup.

The first thing I noticed was that the guitars were very inviting. None of the harshness prevalent in many of todays recordings.

The second thing was the song itself. Very good. good enough for mtv 2. I was going to say that the vox was too far away, but it kinda grew on me, and I believe its just fine where it is.

As bezeel said, it sounds quite professional.Maybe not as punchy as a mastered song, but still quite pro.

peace and keep it up

THANK YOU JAG, for taking the time to listen to it!

the setup was very simple. i've got detailed track notes for those who are really masochistic......

same with vocals.......

Gonzo...

Nice riff! I like the fact that your mix gives each instrument its own "space". It doesn't seem like anything is stepping on anything else...nice job!

Personal preference...I would like to hear the vocals a little less "wet". I think a strong, emotional dry vocal would make the song stronger, more emotional, and less polished. The riff is very bluesy along with the electric slide guitar, and the polished "wet" vocals, in my opinion, detract from the feel of the song.

The percussive effect you achieved with the different sounds is really nice.

THANKS AJ

YEA, finding the space for everything is the deal...... it takes a lot of trial and error for me........
and yes, i'm re-recording the vocals entirely, and am going to try a few dry takes, to see how that sits....... probably some healthy compression, maybe a gate? i don't know, i'll experiment, when i get the new version done, i'll post it and ask someone to a/b it..........
