The Obamacare Song?

Trying to remain objective since I'm uninsured, but I like a song that develops as this one does. Nice use of tempo shifts and instrumentation. The lead part sounds like a French horn, was that a keyboard patch ? It has a nice natural attack. The one thing I noticed was it seemed a little light on the bottom, I was looking for more bass and kick and more body to the rhythm guitar in the parts where it is solo. The backing vocals and keys add a lot and a smooth arrangement with those dynamics, I enjoyed it!

It's just Fucking good K-dub. 6 minute pop song... good job.

Don't get the Political Title you gave it? But those of us in the developed world outside the US will probably never understand why a natural human instinct like universal health care gives you guys so much political grief.

I tried to get a real bass player to perform the part ... but I couldn't get anyone inspired enough to do it. Consequently, I did it ... and since I'm a VERY basic bassist, I kept it mind numbingly simple.

... and therefore when mix time came, the low end was not worthy of showcase. :)

The French Horn is a keyboard patch ... most likely "Orchestral", by Roland ... which is synth based ... which I often prefer ... because samples have a "strained" quality of attack to them ... and just don't sound quite right.

Thanks for the comment!

Thanks, Tobe!

It funny. I wrote this in 1978 (Yes. I'm old) ... and didn't know it was going to be so prescient. :) The actual name of the tune is "Final Daze".

... and we're going through all sorts of conniptions over here as Obamacare rolls out and we all get to see how expensive everything really is. Who knows ... we may eventually wind up with universal health care. Our health care system is still horribly broken.

It occurred to me, Tobe ... that I had another song that answered your question as to why universal health care gives folks in the U.S. so much grief ... and that answer is that our system is owned and operated by moneyed interests.

I feel the beginning rhythm acoustic could have a little more tone (like the vocals have) as the mix is missing some body for me there. It sits ok when the rest of the instruments come in. Great vocals and writing KDub

K-dub, I have always felt a "Broadway" vibe in your stuff... I mean that in a good way. I recon there is a hit musical or 2 in you... seriously... (apparently I can't give you any rep at the moment... got to spread it around :-))

Anyway, your style has a conversational quality is what I'm saying...

That's not the first time that observation has been made, T.

The bass in the acoustic/quiet section is rather good - don't undersell yourself.
It does have elements of a potential stage show - spaces for movement, sections for massed chorus, declaimatory parts etc.
The bottom end does seem to be light on though.
Cool stuff.
The U.S. Health Care issue perplexes Australians - we have universal coverage that's supported by a 1.5% tax on incomes above X. We have incentives to take out private cover including a penalty tax if your income is over Y - this is aimed at ensuring the public system isn't run into the ground or abused (still happening though). Our pharmacutical benefits scheme means that no one pays over $30 for a prescribed med that is on the Pharm. Ben. list & those unemployed/penioned etc. pay about $10. Now, that's not nearly good enough but it's still not bad.
