hey wuts up yall... heres whats going on.... Im recording some songs using a fostex mr-8 and then exporting the wav files to my computer on the cakewalk home studio and creating drum tracks using a program called Drums! (best drum machine available)... when all the wav files are on the pc i do manual editing of the guitar and bass tracks just to delete things like accidentally hiting the string when theres suppost to be silence... after that i normalize all the tracks... now everything sounds great.... no clipping everything sounds no other effects added (cept for verb, and delay on a lead track). When I go to add an effect like compression for the final mix it seems to make it sound shitty... in fact everything does.... eq... limiting.... u name it, it doesn't help... i wish i could post the song here but i can't cause my audio pc doesn't have an internet connection.... is it that i could be using the effects wrong? or that i just don't need anything else?

It's hard to say..It could be either...It could be both.

If everything sounds great..why are you trying to add compression/Eq/Limiter?

Why are you normalizing the tracks?

Try a mixdown without the normalizing, and then do your tweaks and see how that sounds..

correction.... everything sounds good AFTER i normalize the tracks... why do i do that u ask? well its because the mr-8 has a lot of noise and when i record at low volume levels it cuts a lot of it out.... after that normalizing all the tracks makes the mix sound a lot tighter and bigger... it is essential...for me at least... good suggestion though... ill see what happens
