I've always loved Oktava mics even though I have moved to some more expensive gear. I do use figure 8 mics for mid-side and occaisionally Blumlein.
Can anyone take a look and help me understand if this could work?

There has to be an inch or two of space between the front and back diaphragm. I can't imagine you would really get a true +/- signal from that - we all know how much moving a mic an inch or two can make a difference.
Can back-to-back cardioids really make a figure 8 worth anything?
