This is a local hardcore band called LOOK OUT! Recorded , mixed, and mastered by me. Trust me, I had to work for the sound I got.

The band isn't too fantastic, but listen to the overall quality.

Not all that bad man :)

Intro:
I think the snare isn't that great. Could use some more treble. The guitars are ok although not that fat (don't know if that was the goal either).

Same thing. Vocals need some compression and turn them up.

I think it sounds pretty good. There's a little something boomy happening on the kick drum, I imagine it could be cleaned up in mastering though. For this style of music I think the vox are good where they are, maybe back off the backup "gang vocals" just a hair...

yea the snare drum needs a bit more definition to it, or maybe if the bass drum wasn't quite so loud it would make everything sound better

care to share how you micced everything? :)

i think it sounds real good. The snare could use a little more high end, but other than that, real good. Escecially for that style of music, sometimes its hard to get it to sound too defined due to the style of the music. But i also like a more lofi sound on alot of punk and hardcore. Anyways...How did you record it, what mics did you use, and how did you position them? Liked to hear cause ill be recorded some stuff like this soon, and id like some tips.

on second listen, I think you want less "boom" and more of the beater "smack" in the kick sound, at least for this kind of stuff...

same thing said less boom and more def on the snare

Well, I did all I could with the kick. I it was just bad placement. I was in a rush because the band didn't have too much money. I agree with the snare. I'm just in a bad recording environment right now in a VERY untreated square room. The bass player was not very good, so I kept him low in the mix. Trust me, if I were to have brought him up more, it would have drug the music down. Thanks for the comments. I did what I could with this band. I still think it was worth the $135 they spent. I will post more bands as I go along.
