The mix

Sounds really clear and tight.

The main thing I am hearing is the Hi-hat sounding like it's out if front of the drum kit, right in the middle of the soundstage - where the vocals would be. Although, as I am listening, it moves to the left side at the end of the song. maybe it was done that way for effect? It is also too loud in the end of the song.

Nice job overall though! :)

Thanks man.
Ill look into the HI hat issue.
I didnt automate the panning of the hats.
It could be that the OHs picked up alot of the hats. That could be why it sounds in the middle sometimes and to one side at other times.

Cheers,
Eck

yo yo good mix

Just a little nit picking:

The drum is a bit too bright.
I think the kick has a tad too much click (for the gerne)
Snare sounds good.

Maybe let the bass guitar come trough a bit more in the parts without the guitars.

Overal good mix

Yeah ti does seem quite loud at the end of the song. And I hear the side issue. I cant get the hi hat off to one side unless it is too loud. Becuase the OHs have picked it pu alot I need to use the close mic at a loud level to combat it.

I can't listen because I'm at work. But I'm wondering why the hi-hat would be in the middle even if the overheads were picking them up??? How are your OV's configured??? Unless your high hats are actually in the middle of the kit, wouldn't they still come out of the right (or left) side more???

Excellent sound man, better IMO than the track I just listened to (my own :D ) Rhythm guitars that come in around 0:49 sound a bit thin to me. Sound real cool around 1:42 where you drop to a lead/bass combo. Still man, I love this sound, just think you could get a little more power/drama out of the 2:13 like parts, maybe with another guitar or a thicker EQ setting there.
Yeah and bass sounds real good too.
Good work here

Noice noize goiz.
The drum placement is disconcernting at 1st but the martial snare snapping soon took me away from worrying.
An interesting piece & it stands alone well - can't help wondering what a vocal melody would do for it though.

Thanks alot everyone for the nice words and opinions.
We re recorded the drums again today as the timing wasnt too hot, so hope I can get the same snappy snare from these recordings. :) There could be a tad too much hi end on the snare, but I like the punchy slap sound of the kick. Thats the sound I was going for. It works better in our heavier songs I suppose.

The vocal melodies are real nice. Kinda Incubus/Pearl Jam/Faith No More vibe to them. Once we have re recorded it all Ill post with the vox. Could be a while till we get that far though, as we are recording the vox last.

Cheers,
Eck

Ill see what we can muster up for the thicker rythym bits.
Im quite impressed with the sound we got. We are recording into a $40 recording programme with an old analogue mixer and not the best mics. I think we are using Shure MKII mics. They look like SM57s but cheaper.

For the drums we used a proper studio though ,with some nice mics. :)
Used some C414s for snare and hats. Rode NT2s for OHs.

The way I set up the OHs was one infront of the drummer to the left, and 1 behind the drummer to the right. Trying to center the sanre as much as possible. Is a bit odd how the hats sit in the middle. Must ahve been the way I placed the OHs. A wee bit annoying but ill hope our new recordin of them has a better pan balance.

Peace,
Eck

Really rockin'.

No critiques. Nice rhythm and lead playing. :)

The drums are pretty good, too.

Nice work eck. Very clean, clear and crisp. I wouldn't touch the thicker rhythm parts though. Maybe just back off the snare volume a hair during them.

have you eqd in a lot of high end to the snare? If you used a c414 on the snare it could be that you picked up so much hat on ur snare track that the bulk of your hat is in the snare track and the high end eq on the snare makes it stand out and appear centred.
Its a real nice song, i like the genre and its well recorded, but if you could just sort out those hats it would be great:)
They hurt my ears a wee bit:)

Thats exactly what it will be. I am willing to sacrifice the hats for a snappy snare though. Ill just have to bring the snare down a tad and also the 3K boost down a tiny tad also. 3K seems to be where the snap comes from, and also down somewhere in the lo end for beef, maybe around 200Hz.

Cheers all.

A wee bump for the lads, before this goes to its grave.

Good job Mr eck. I have no problems with the mix as it sits on this, I like the snare and the kick the way you've mixed them so far. Guitars are also nicely mixed in there. Good job even with the MII mic's.

Looking forward to the vocalized/updated version when it gets posted.....
