I've been recording some material for a new CD on a PC laptop using Cakewalk. Everything was fine yesterday, but today, the mic isn't working. Both the line in and built in mike record silence and soft static when I replay any recording attempts, and no external sound registers (tapping near the built in mic, plugging in the line mic). It doesn't work with Sound Recorder or Cakewalk. The only thing I've done since yesterday is record a track off a CD using RealJutebox. Could that have set something off? Any suggestions either way?

Check to make sure your "source" is set correctly within Cakewalk. You may have inadvertently set it to "none".

After that you might check your sound card mixer. If you didn't get one with your sound card, then you are using Windows built in mixer. (Double Click on the Speaker Icon in your System Tray - i.e., volume control. From the menu select Options and Properties. Click the radio button for Recording and make sure your inputs are enabled.)
